I think that my adult daughter may be physically abused by her husband. They live 10 hours away. I visited her over the July 4 weekend, and it was a miserable experience because all they did was argue. He did not touch her inappropriately in my presence. Then, Friday night they had a "huge fight" , her words. She left to stay with a friend. That's all I know about the situation at the moment.
He is a soldier. They've been married two years, but he's been gone to Afghanistan half that time. He has PTSD and just started getting treated for it (meds and therapy).
I admit I'm extra suspicious because I am a survivor of domestic violence myself (her father).
If I can get her to admit what is going on, what can I do to help her? Should I get her to tell her husband's sergeant? Refer her to a shelter? Something else I haven't thought of?

I would ask her about violence and let her know that you're afraid for her....If she's willing to talk to you then you can listen to her and make constructive suggestions.. Let her know that you're there for her..
It's no good trying to get into the middle of a marriage....It will most likely backfire on you
PTSD can certainly trigger anger in people... I'm so glad he's starting treatment for it...x

It's very important she is honest with them. They cannot protect her otherwise. PTSD in the military is turning deadly for wives and children. It is promising to hear that he is getting treatment but she also needs treatment because the wives are triggering the soldiers and they aren't even aware of it. She probably needs some education about it.
