Yes been there done that and it wasn't so bad.

They give you drugs in the IV that makes it seem like time just for by....

I had one scheduled and after I found out more about it I canceled. You need to have a friend take you home (since you're all doped up) after and I really don't have any friends. Besides, during my aunt's procedure they perforated her bowel and she had to spend several days in hospital. No thanks.

I know it's a simple procedure, and can prevent a cancer that is easily cured...but I'm with tommymott...with my luck, it wouldn't go well

I hear ya. Im having some issues and since my grandfather has colon cancer and I'm 43 the doctor wants to do one. I just don't want to do anything to flare up my P.O.T.S. I'm discussing it with my cardiologist and PCP first. I was hoping the gastro doctor would just diagnose me with irrital bowel syndrome and be done with it.

No I haven't yet. And I need to. Sigh. All the things we have to go through when we get old. They say it's simple and could possible save your life. I will when the time comes. I'm dealing with a number of health issues at the moment much more pressing. I'm sure they will eventually get to it. Both my parents are cancer survivors so I have them every few years. No problems and no cancer. If there was they deal with it.

I really suggest you do it. The worst part of it is the preparation and after that everything is fine.

You can have them in the UK with or without some kind of anaesthetic. I have the anaesthetic - although I wouldn't drive home after (I get a taxi) I was fine an hour or so after and no further problems. Hungry though.

I also have one every year, because they found pre cancerous polops and removed them. I was asleep through the whole procedure.

As acuriousfish said, the worse part is the prep.

Oh goodness! I had one back this summer and the prep is the worst part! Because of my high tolerance to benzos, I receive 3x the sedative and still watched the entire procedure on a screen in front of me. Again, aside from the prep (which is basically drinking salty fruit juice), it's a piece of cake!

One suggestion: Drink the prep with a straw so you bypass your tastebuds and just swallow!!

But the procedure is a breeze. The drugs are good!

It sounds like you really should listen to your Dr. Having one is a lot easier than having colon cancer. I've had 2. The prep is no fun because you have to drink a solution to make you poop everything out. The test itself is not bad. They give you drugs to relax you and you won't feel a thing. The benefits far outweigh the risks.

Have had two because my CEA levels have come back high over the four years and that is indicator of colon cancer. Thankfully all came out well and like others have said its a breeze except for the prep which is a bitch.

It doesn't hurt at all. They give you knock out drugs and it's over in 5 minutes it seems like then they let you wake up and someone will take you home. No sweat! The prep is drinking gallons of water with laxative in it. It takes a day to clean your bowel as much as possible.

My girlfriend is having one tomorrow morning. She gets them as a regular check up since her mom had colon ca. The worst part is not eating before the procedure and drinking the stuff that cleanses your colon. She said that she was awake for her last one. No biggie.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I saw my cardiologist today and he suggested I wait 6 months to get the procedure done. He said it could flare up my P.O.T.S symptoms and cause a set back.
