I just had to let people know that there is a new virus out there that is very dangerous.
It is called a File recognition virus and can not be blocked by any anti virus program, The only defense against this virus is to keep all your files updated such as your internet severer ie, IE or FireFox , your Adobe flash player, reader and so forth.
This virus enters your computer through and old file and infects all files making it impossible for your computer to read any file, essentially leaving your computer useless until it is purged from your system. The good news is it can be clean out, the bad news is it both takes a long time ( 5 days) and cost a lot ( about $200)
I hope no one else comes across this virus and hope all have a Safe and Joyous Holiday Season.

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. Malware Bytes is another good program, not sure if you need to pay for it. I use the free version of Ad-Aware and it works fine.
For registry cleaning I would suggest CC Cleaner. The free version runs great. And for removing programs completely from your computer you can't go wrong with Revo Uninstaller. Free also.
The op was just trying to be helpful and give everyone a heads up. Whether you take it or not is up to you.

It now seems the idea the virus is coming from DS is gaining traction and people are leaving.
It's a pity because apart from one of the Cl's saying they have the issue with Norton giving warnings no one has given much info.

This is as straight forward as I can find for reformatting and reinstalling windows 7. You MUST have a Windows 7 operating disc.
Remember, reformatting = wiping your entire drive. If you haven't backed up your documents(writings) then don't even attempt this as this wipes your hard drive clean.
However, in the event you have copied your writings to another drive and have a Windows 7 disc then try this video.

I don't know which one you want. Perhaps your friend can tell you. Anyway, click on any of them and when you look at the instructions, they look suitably horrible and if you're like me will make you want to put your head in the oven.
One of the things it warned about is that the virus will keep you going from sites that will tell you how to get rid of it. (It hijacks you!!!!!) When you try to go there, it gives the following warning (which is all bullshit.)

Possible reasons include:
- Dangerous code found in this site's pages which installed unwanted software into your system.
- Suspicious and potentially unsafe network activity detected.

Things you can do:
- Get a copy of Win 7 Internet Security 2012 to safeguard your PC while surfing the web (RECOMMENDED)
- Run a spyware, virus and malware scan
- Continue surfing without any security measures (DANGEROUS)
I recommend going to bleepingcomputer.com, even if you don't want to follow the steps provided.
It's a good read. If nothing else, it tells you how the virus works, what it does, and gives you a whole bunch of the fake messages that may pop up as you try to fix things. I would find that helpful if I were battling this virus.
