I just had to let people know that there is a new virus out there that is very dangerous.
It is called a File recognition virus and can not be blocked by any anti virus program, The only defense against this virus is to keep all your files updated such as your internet severer ie, IE or FireFox , your Adobe flash player, reader and so forth.
This virus enters your computer through and old file and infects all files making it impossible for your computer to read any file, essentially leaving your computer useless until it is purged from your system. The good news is it can be clean out, the bad news is it both takes a long time ( 5 days) and cost a lot ( about $200)
I hope no one else comes across this virus and hope all have a Safe and Joyous Holiday Season.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

The description how the virus works seems a little odd too.
Updating your programs would not be a defence against a specific virus but some programs do have vulnerabilities which can lead to infection, these include browsers, java and flash.
It is extremely unlikely that updating these files would be a defence when it says no anti virus can prevent it.
I can't imagine why any virus would take 5 days to clear off - or cost a specific amount.
Please give the source for this information.
happy Holiday's to you!
Weider, do you have the virus name?
I've been able to disinfect after the event by downloading various fixes that you can then put on a USB drive.
The 5 days will be to do with the companies backlog of work. Trust me, even I don't take 5 days removing a virus.
The Geek squad guy said that others had just started bringing in their computers with the same virus.
You can see the ones discovered today here

I may be missing it -- God knows I am not very techie -- but I do know enough to find it extremely unusual that a new virus as vicious as you describe isn't popping up all over Internet sites that announce and warn of new viruses.
News of bad viruses usually spread across the Internet in a matter of hours, not weeks.
A lot of what I came across had to do both Best Buy and the Geek squad and after reading it, I will never give either of them any of my business, although I'm glad that you've had nothing but great experiences with them and I hope that you continue to do so.
I'm still suspicious about there being a dangerous virus that has been around for a number of weeks and yet is not being mentioned by any of the Internet sites that usually warn of such things, but I thank you for posting this!! I'll take your advice and make sure I'm updated on everything (which is something I am in the habit of doing anyway.)
And, as ACF said, you are almost certainly waiting five days only because they have a backlog of work orders. A former employee of Geek Squads mentioned that as they cut back on the number of employees, they could no longer keep up with the amount of business being brought in.
