Like everyone, she had to go totally online when COVID broke out last year. After opening back up in-person for a few months she's now forced to go back to online only with this Delta variant going around. It's a real and very serious mutation and our hospital system here is maxed out again, so I totally understand the change back.
But me personally, as much as I really like talk therapy in person, I do not like it online only and I simply won't do it until we go back to in-person. I don't think it's specifically body language or anything like that. I don't know what it is, it just isn't the same and I don't feel like opening up in the same way at all. I just don't feel the same comfort level talking about very intimate things online like I do in-person.
That being said, it's just as good, or better sometimes for a lot of other people. I think some folks might be more apt to talk in the remote setting than in-person, or at least as much.
My therapist has a cool option to park your car in her parking lot and use her WIFI, if needed, to chat with her online. So it feels more like you're there, or at least you're not at home if that's not comfortable for you.
I recommend you at least give it a try and see what happens. It may work for you or at least be a decent way to get some good therapy while we wait for all this COVID stuff to go away (if it ever does). Also, it may be your only option for the time being and just getting some therapy, in-person or not, can be extremely helpful.
