Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I am on 18 medications for everything from pain to bipolar to water pills. It all finally got just about balanced, and now I feel, well, on top of the world.
I am going out to worship, getting organized (a little at a time) getting enough sleep 2 nights out of 3, getting adequate nutrition, keeping clean and pretty. My relationships with everybody I know are positive and thriving. I have close relationships with my family, and have plenty of support.
But I get a little too up (duh) on about one night in three. I get so happy on nights like this, I don't want it to end. So I drink too much coffee and chat too long with my friends in recovery (I have 7 months sober) and the hours go by when I should at least be trying to sleep. I talk and talk on the phone when I might be spending my time more productively. Well, nobody is perfect.
At least I'm not on Amazon. I don't owe any money (Thank Goodness). But on nights like this I end up taking extra ativan or thorazine to calm down enough to go to bed.
I hate it that there aren't more hours in the day. Sometimes, I wish I weren't caring for my parents and I could just go somewhere and go play. But, I figure this is just the overactive me thinking, I will calm down. It will probably balance out.
I have been bipolar for most of my life, and I know that the more I indulge in the energy, the worse it will be later. Doesn't that just strike you as so unfair?
All in all, I am thankful for my independence (I have lived in institutions and nursing homes before) and my good relationships with my friends and family (which wasn't always the case), and my good relationship with God as I understand Him. I hope I can just maintain balance.
Any suggestions?
Tip top of the world, and curious, but a little scared.....

Just make sure you continue to eat, drink, sleep, bathe, laugh & love! And that you're not hypomanic. I think being on top of the world isn't such a bad place!
Just one note: drinking coffee at night will keep you up so if that's a concern, just cut it with decaf or have decaf tea! I know you'd like to stay up and talk with friends, but you do need sleep! We all do!
Maintain balance: Do you exercise? With 18 meds and sedentary activity, you might want to take speed walks or just walk to admire nature. Do you live in the city or the country? Could be as easy as walking out your front door. As for your relationships, YOU SOUND AWESOME! And no debt! I think you've found balance all on your own!
Got any tips for me? LOL!
Yes, this means you will fall off the top of the world, but the great part about that is generally there are multiple different meds for each illness. So your Dr.s should be able to tweak your med Cocktail and get you Stable again.
For now, just enjoy the Stability because there is nobody who can tell you how long it will last. I've had Stability that lasted almost 10 ys. it was a pretty good run. One thing to remember, just because you think your all better, its a very, very good idea to keep seeing your Therapist even it if lts only once a month.
Hang in there, you'll get it all figured out. If this is a true Stability issue you'll come down and fee reguar, not jazzed all the time. If this level of excitement and being wound up, you might be having a hypomanic attack. You'll just have to see how you do over the next couple weeks.
Yay, maybe drink less coffee and go to bed a bit earlier on those nights...but I know myself, getting to bed earlier on a night I'm feeling good is not as rewarding as chatting. But it's your recovery friends!
Be well xxo
Something gets into me every third day, and I just can't help myself. It's related to a medicine I take that peaks after I take it every third day, I figured out., but I have to take the medicine, and I already talked to the MDs about it, it is just something I have to learn to modulate. Maybe on th edays I take the medicine, I will automatically START with less coffee and see how it goes. So I won't have anymore coffee tonight and see how it goes.
