OMG - I've got locks! - which drug is doing it?

People, seriously, you've gotta help me out here. I'm on 3 pills, and one of them is making my hair curl, and I need to know which one!

I am on lithium, Seroquel and lamotrigine (Lamictal), and I am due to taper off of lithium, then drop either Seroquel or Lamictal.

But I have such a huge fetish on curly hair, that's all I wanted my whole life, and now I've got it, and I want to keep it longer if possible. Yes, I would consider staying on lithium longer than needed just to keep my curly hair a little longer. Yeah, I'm messed up, but who isn't. :)

So I start Goggling, and I find that this is a rare ~3-5% side-effect of valproate. But I'm not on valproate! So which other drug is it?

Please let me know if you've had the same side-effect, and which drug did it, or which drugs were you on at the time. Ughhh, I'm dying to know...

I never put all the pieces together until I read this. But, I've had super straight hair all my life. I started taking lithium about a year and a half ago, and my hair isn't super curly, but it has started to curl around my face a little and the nape of my neck, plus the rest of it has a bit more body and wave. I don't know if it's the lithium or not, but I hate it. I like having straight hair. The curls around my face are driving me crazy, cause I can't control them. Hope that helps.

Find one website that talks about Lithium and it affecting hair (other than hair loss). Go ahead, I dare ya.

lamictal AND lithium can affect your hair.

used to be a hairdresser long ago, before lamictal came out.

but positively lithium messed with hairs texture/form, and really effed up perms c ause it leaves a coating on hair

lamictal DOES have a noted side effect of hair loss/thinning.

i'm not saying that lithium caused my hair to curl (in fact, i had never even considered the possibility before this post). but, it has started to curl and i don't know why. maybe it's just luck. it's not as though this is a "side-effect" exactly, but it is something that is happening to me without explanation. maybe my hair is just changing. whatever the cause, i don't like it, but i'll deal.

I don't know about curly...I do know that the lithium will cause hair loss...actually it breaks off, that's what pdoc says

Yup, it does. It's a royal pain in the butt too..dry frizzy ends. I have to soak it in conditioner and it's still kind dry. I wouldn't give up Lithium for anything though.
