My Mom's birthday is tomorrow. I had planned on getting her a gift certificate since she's BP and uses shopping as an outlet...but then again, she's trying to cut back on all the clutter from her binge shopping.

I thought I'd clean the house like crazy for her b/c she has all these huge ideas for moving furniture around (I think she's a little manic, but it's not a bad idea)...BUT, Where's the surprise in that? She'll be watching me clean, and probably feel guilty that I'm doing it and try to out-do me.

So what do I do for Mom's b-day? Oh yeah, I'm pretty broke.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think cleaning her house is a nice gift, especially if you are low on cash. After all, who really likes doing it? I'd be thrilled with that type of gift. Surprise or not.

If you want to "surprise" her with it have a coupon in a card stating its for a free house cleaning.

Damn, I wish someone would do that for me. Would be the best gift I'd had in a long time!

Make her relax run her a bubble bath with candles and pamper and wait on her for the day and tell her how much you love her and that she deserves to be spoiled,and tell her how much she means to you!

when I have been broke (which is plenty of times), I have always made something. A picture, a sculpture, a collection of memories, a collage, a flower arrangement from flowers picked along the side of the road ... anything which indicates you put heart into it. Doesn't have to cost a thing.

Have your girls make a pretty card..include a pamper Grandma coupon..including manicure and pedicure...my grand daughters did this for me last year...the manicure and pedicure were a mess...but we laughed and had a good time!

I like all the replies you have gotten so far. How about giving her a card with the coupons in it. One for a free house cleaning, one for the spa treatment and one for a free home cooked meal. Let her decide which one she wants to cash in on her birthday and let her keep the other two for a day when she really needs a pick me up.

Are you able to make her a nice dinner, clean up after it and perhaps clean the frig too? Only saying because mine is really bad.

I'd love it if my daughter came to my house with flowers planned a great meal, and cooked a dinner, but let me help so we cooked together, and then cleaned up afterwards. It would be a memorable gift. Don't forget her favorite dessert.
