I know how hard and painful this is... Big hug for you and your family...x
Medicare will pay the first 30 days if he went to the home from the hospital. That should give you time to apply for Medicaid. Medicaid will only pay after you have exhausted all (and I mean all) of his own funds and assets.
If he has assets - consult a lawyer. There are ways he can "spend his money down" and not include it in the Medicaid review.
If he doesn't have any assets - the formula goes like this:
government pension
+ SS
- medical insurance premiums
- about $30/month for spending
= the amount you pay the home
Medicaid picks up the balance. Someone at the home will work with you on all of this. Legally your BF is not responsible for the bill - only his dad is responsible.
Again, if he has money saved it is worth it to consult a lawyer.
Thanks SunCloud. You're always so supportive.
If he rehabs within the first 30 days and is discharged then no worries. Medicare insurance will pay for it.
It's only if he stays over the 30 days you will have to make other arrangements for payment. (Medicaid)
