As you all know, I lost my job for the FORTH TIME in a year. It has left me feeling like a boxer who has been hit and is on the floor. I have picked myself up and dusted myself off, but this time, it is different. I feel hopeless, helpless and useless. I asked my father to help me with my March rent. His words "I will help you this time, but it will be the last time". We are talking about a person who has ALOT of money. It is even worse that he acts like he is holier than thou. He has gone on mission trips to other countries, goes to church three times a week, leads Sunday school. He helps complete strangers, yet he knows what I am going through, and has the nerve to act that way towards me? It hurts more than I can express. He helped me when I had cancer in 2007 and had two major surgeries. This whole thing is wearing on my heart and soul. I feel like giving up completely. I have nothing to offer this world. I am just a huge burden to everyone. I wish I was dead.

You are not a burden. It sounds like you family has issues. Apparently your father has never heard "charity begins at home". He needs to help you because you're family. He's been at church but he doesn't learn anything from the sermons. Big hugs.

I'm sorry TC. Don't take your Dad's comments personally. Who knows why he added the "this is the time." You know that your request will not cause him financial harm so don't give it another thought. Sometimes our family members are just not people we can count on when we're rebuilding our confidence and self-esteem. Look to those people in your life who do fill that role. (((Big hug)))

Im so sorry to hear that. I lost 2 jobs in a year and it hurts ... Much love!!!! Just think of it as you werent supposed to be there and you have sonething to bring to where you go next!!

I wonder if he thinks he is helping you to grow up and be independent by withholding help? You might need to talk to him about it. Good luck

My father and I have the same relationship - the last time I asked him for monetary help, he told me I was too old to be asking for handouts and should have thought the situation through more thoroughly. He is also very wealthy - - and has 4 adult kids he supports (pays their rent in their Manhattan apartments, buys them cars, etc.). I feel like a lost daughter. My mother is as poor as I am, so I wouldn't ask her.

I think it's time to apply for disability. You've proven that you've tried your best and it just isn't "good enough" to keep a job. (I think you're good enough for Anything but my opinion doesn't, unfortunately, count).

TC I know how it feels to fell like you are a burden but you are not. Sounds to me like your loved ones are the burden on you. I wish you had more support with your family but you do have us here. I know that dying seems like the best answer sometimes but it is not. You are too strong to go that way. Look agt all you have been thru? And you keep trying. I know it seems hopeless but your ship is gonna come in TC it will and you can look back on all of this shit you have been thru and say Damn I can believe I made it! Hugs TC dont give up.

Thank you all SO much for your help. I have been self sufficient my whole entire adult life. The only time (other than this) that I asked for help was when I had cancer and needed help with my rent because I had two major surgeries in one year and was unable to work for about three months. So, it took ALOT to "suck it up" and ask for help. I have gone through three job losses before this recent one, and didn't ask for help. As far as disability goes, I applied online last week, so now have to wait a second see what happens. I am praying that I will be approved.

My husband is disabled and going through that... Applying for ssi and ssd its tough. We had no income for three months and went through it and family had to help. Best wishes to you. So glad you fought cancer!!
