Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I'm finally tired of people completely buying in to the bullshit fed to them by practising Psychiatrists, where after a short consultation of observing mannerisms and behaviours - exploring no previous life experience - they can tell you that you have a disease and need a drug to handle it.
There's still no PHYSICAL test to determine what "mental illness" you have, there is only pure speculation based on completely open-to-interpretation theories.
It's really unfortunate to see that human kind is still VERY much lacking in compassion for their fellow man. Forget that someone could do with someone to trust, listening to the deep suffering they've been through without judgement, a shoulder to cry on and a warm embrace. Forget that people are not designed to be programmed like machines or robots to do the bidding for the biggest paper currency. Forgot that showing someone loving-kindness, to care enough to spend time with a person while they go through the motions of a profound experience - while being there to protect them and keep them safe on their journey.
Give them a bio-chemical drug that suppresses the dopamine neurotransmitter pathways travelling to the frontal lobes, restricting flow to the area of the brain that helps manage emotion and creativity. Blunt people and chemically lobotomise people so they have a false sense of peace. A false sense of being alright - regardless if there's horrors going on around them.
It's disheartening to see so many people lost and buying in to all this, and understanding that they are truly suffering a great deal, and struggling with great difficulty. It's no reason to exploit and take advantage by pulling the wool over their eyes. Keeping them asleep when they require to be awake.
The human race is still in it's infancy, and like all infants continues to act out in reaction to it's development. Branding it "mental illness" only serves the purpose of those wanting the power and to line their pockets. This will continue to happen until people are given the strength back to them.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Unfortunately there is lack of effectiveness provided by many practicioners. That does not mean that diagnoses of mental illness are not accurate or should be untreated.
Part of the problem may be our own. We don't want the diagnosis. Medications may cause uncomfortable adjustments and side effects. In the end it's up to us to decide what's best for us. Since beginning lithium use in 1979
I have not been hospitalized or strapped to a bed and that works for me.
I agree with a whole lot of what you all are saying and pray that somehow, someway that there is a way that these behaviors, tendencies, and or conditions can be treated in the BEST way possible. Whatever THAT means. The more I thought I knew.....the less I realize....I have no clue....

What I think is, we don't even use the majority of out brains, they have no real confirmation of what is what when it comes to mentally ill, humans are still evolving......who is to say what is what.
It makes me angry sometimes:P
I try hard to fight tooth and nail not to let bipolar take over my being. I try not to let every mood I go through end up being related to bipolar because the truth is..sometimes you just get mad, upset. etc.
Other days, I just go with the flow and listen to my doctor
I don't deny that what is label as mental illness exists, just that it's not a disease. I also understand tommymott, that there are physicals tests to support these conditions, yet nothing out right that tells you in an objective physical test that you have a bi-polar brain disease, or what have you.
It will change, I know it will. I'm going to be a part of it and help people get the kind of care and attention they truly deserve.
