Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

So I went to my appt and what do you know- she decided I didn't need to be on meds just yet and after a few minutes of chatting it up declared me to be un-bipolar. Yep, she said I am absolutely not bipolar by any stretch of the imagination. I do have BP tendencies and behaviours but that's it. She thinks I have borderline personality disorder which wasn't very shocking to me but I'm hoping they find that that isn't true. Further along she said we should try to not focus on a label/dx but try instead to figure out the root of my behaviours and moods. I agree but I think having a name makes it less scary because I can find a way to understand it and... Make peace with it? According to her I'll be monitored and maybe put on anti-depressants which frankly worries me cos if I have bp tendencies there's no telling what anti-ds will do to me. Hello possible mania. Sigh.
Morning y'all.

Quick, before the evil MONday gets here! Let's climb those mountains, dance in the meadows, dip our feet in the ocean....Okay, so most of us won't be doing any of That. Sadly. But today can still be a great day!The area behind our back fence is on an incline, with less than two feet on even ground at the top. I don't balance well enough for the incline, but our mower guy mows that...

second try. this is shorter so it might come over a bit short!
I'm not surprised about the diagnosis either..
good thing is there is no mania or hypomania with Borderline - intense mood shifts yes but not those states. You should be able to take anti-depressents like anyone else - Borderline is a personality disorder, not a disorder rooted in faulty biochemistry.
I hope you will get proper treatment, that is DBT rather than any old therapy.
you can find out more on the Personality Disorder board.
Borderline is treated by therapy and while it probably never goes away entirely with work by you and whoever is doing the DBT you can have a degree of recovery.
You can also be free of meds, so no weight gain, any of the other side effects and not constantly worrying if they are going to stop working, be withdrawn or if in the US taken off the insurance list.
Three caveats.
It is not due to drugs (medical or street), fever / delerium or major trauma.
It must last more than several days.
You are not aware at the time that the hallucinations / false beliefs are not true. If you are aware then that isn't psychosis.
I have both.
I too would like a label ! A lot of Doctors don't want to label but treat symptoms , I always wonder if you don't have a label then what are you treating ?
Like if I had cancer I would want to know what kind of cancer or in organ failure hell yes I would want to know what organ ! any way just the way I feel about having a name to claim it .
BTW I am assuming your DX will change many times over your life time who knows . or things added to the list of dx.
I hope you can get to the bottom of all this and get the help that you deserve and feel better . hugs
