Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hello,
I have struggled with severe anxiety, mainly health, and some depression for years. I definitely have some OCD traits. Now my primary care and psychologist consulted with a psychiatrist and said I have bipolar type 2. My father had type 1, but nobody has ever said anything about bipolar. I have been on a ton of antidepressants and they usually work for a couple of years, then stop working. They prescribed Lamictal and Seroquel, which I have not taken. I am currently on Pristiq. I really don't think I have bipolar and am scared to get a diagnosis like that and take such powerful medications. I am always thinking about death and I have had panic attacks. I'm always afraid I'm dying. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and thanksor listening.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

But....and it's a big but, you can't be Diagnosed BiPolar from your M.D. and Therapist talking to a Pdoc about you, that is ridiculous! Only a Pdoc can diagnose you and in order for them to do that they need to talk to you, there are emotional, mood, depression, history surveys/questionnaires that you need to fill out that they then take into account with what they learn when they talk to you and what you tell them your symptoms are.
An M.D. is great at treating Strep Throat or casting a broken arm or treating Bronchitis but they are neither educated or trained in BiPolar Disorder, nor do they have specialty training in Psych Medications.
You need to go and see the Psychiatrist and let them properly diagnose you, then let them decide if you need to take further medications, let them decide if you actually are BiPolar. BiPolar disorder is not passed down genetically from generation to generation, so whatever your father has doesn't matter. Please go and see the Pdoc yourself and get properly Diagnosed.
Take care,
Kat
I actually had the same journey that you've been on.... I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression for years that over time became bipolar 2.... For me it was a gift .... The right diagnosis and treatment put me on a path to finding stability
Regardless of what your diagnosis is at this point the medication that you're on doesn't seem to be working from what you're writing..... So I would work with your medical professionals to find stability and I would ask for a psychiatric referral.... They are experts on psych medication..... Gentle hug..... You will find stability ...... xo
