When we lived in our apartment if we walked in the kitchen with our cowboy boots or heels on the idiot downstairs would bang on the ceiling. It didn't matter that he was having sex in front of the sliding door for the whole complex to see so we quit caring how much noise we made to make up for the sights we had to see.
Living in an apartment has its give and takes. Some take more than they give and are never happy. Those are the ones that need to move to a different environment if they cant handle a little noise and neighbors
Janet sounds as if she has no kids. Do you thiink if they apologize for themselves it may help. I used to always apologize for my kids and then day I decided that if they were going to be successful, people interaction and taking responsibility is important. People want to know that your kids are actually aware of their complaint and that they care(even if they dont).
I hope the two of you are able to patch things up before you leave, You may be right about her feeling bad about you moving. I think talking is going to get you all through this.
It's not that they aren't trying to be aware they scold me too when they think I"m being too loud for Janet.

Apartment living has a cost and noise is the main one. It is nice you try to appease her but doing more than that is unnecessary.
Pray your neighbours to come are not worse than your last. Friendships, well sometimes they aren't what they seem.
Sometimes just being a decent neighbour is the best one can do and the kids these days should learn this. It doesn't take much to express a thoughtful gesture.
Even picking up a garbage can lid from the road and putting it back where it belongs can be seen as a kind gesture from a block away.
i don't mean to be an ass, but flip the situation around, and i bet you'd be a bit peeved getting woken up at 6 am. if it was your day to catch up on sleep.
Why she had to do that on a Saturday when it mattered I"ll never know. Well she doesn't know the situation with Janet either so...
But I asked my daughter what she did and she claims she did nothing wrong. Janet won't tell me what exactly happened. She said she didn't want to talk about it but she was gonna pay me back for it. It's also unusual for her to pursue things like revenge so I know she was pissed.
My daughter must have dropped something or done something stupid is all I can figure. I always did think who ever put a kitchen above a bedroom is a dumb ass.
Well it doesn't matter what happened any more, all that matters is I do something. If I can have the kids again before I move I will have them apologize but I might not get them again till then.
i missed that she threatened to `pay you back'...wtf??? yikes!!! that's kinda' scary.
"payback" sounds unbalanced and over the edge
maybe apologize as you have done, perhaps a small token gift that she would appreciate with a note from you to make sure they keep it down
then let her stew it out on her own. she sounds as troubled as a beeper in March. :p
Anyway another thing that happened to me once is we had some young kids with a baby (18 and younger kids) move in upstairs. They did not honestly realize how loud their stereo was until the Mom of the baby was visiting one day and she said is THAT our stereo and I said yes. From then on out I didn't have an issue with the noise once she realized, by being in my home when the noise was going on, just out bad the sound was.
