My anniversary

I don't know what to do. My 6th wedding anniversary is coming up and I don't know if I should get my husband anything. This is what he did for christmas. He has more money this at christmas this year than he has for 2 years and all he got me were cheap bedroom slippers! He was laid off the last 2 christmases and got me much better stuff. I'm not greedy! I work hard around the house and waiting on him hand and foot! What did I do to deserve this? Just today I went out and turned in over $3 worth of cans & bottles in the rain and I have a cold! The can return place is almost always crowded so I got really wet waiting my turn. I can't work, I have no place to go so I have to tough out this crummy marriage. I just don't know what to do.

I think that if you use this as a standard, which are the words of Jesus on the Sermon on the Mount, you would be much farther ahead in your marriage. And you don't have to be a Christian to apply them. Ghandi, the Hindu who freed India from the British loved the Sermon on the Mount. It is about doing these things, and then finding out they work.

I am not being judgmental here, just giving my opinion, that many of the problems in relationships would be solved if everyone did this.

I think you should do what you want, but just as a matter of curiosity, what did he get you for your last anniversary? And what did you get him?
I think if money is so tight that you're out there turning in bottles and cans, maybe you guys should skip giving each other gifts that require money.

when i was partnered and money was tight we gave each other handmade cards or gifts. one year it was as simple as dinner made for me and i fixed the afters. i don't think it really matters... it's a celebration of your time together, of surviving another year with someone who has your back and supports you and loves you. i miss that feeling a lot, so if your relationship is working be thankful for it and don't worry too much about the tokens that in the end mean a lot less than the committment itself.
