I just can't believe the outrageous price of food!
i would do coupons, but i'm lazy. i still want to try and see if there's anything to it, though.
I usually use meat to make big pots of something like spaghetti sauce.. It goes a long way.. I freeze some and it's good for several meals..
Eggs are good and cheap.. Omelettes with fried potatoes are good for suppers...
Stews go a long way to..
It is an awful price...I hope the week goes well...xo
real food is expensive! 2 dollars for one green bellpepper! It's insane! and 7.80 for a tiny bit of hamburger meat! HAMBURGER! I can't believe it!
The bell peppers really burn me up though cause that's like one of the few and only vegetables I eat and use in all my dishes.
They say the recession is over ...But for who ?
Even all my utilities have gone up.
I really don't know how we are to make it . Everything seems to be a struggle lately .

I do as much of my grocery shopping as I can in the better dollar stores.
Then, I hit Aldi's.
Then I shop the sales at wherever else I have to go to round out the shopping.
Sometimes, the WalMarts have good prices. Not as good as they used to be, though. At least, not around here.

A lot of times you can get frozen vegetables cheaper than you can canned vegetables and I think they taste better and probably ARE better for you, too.
Fiber One Cereal costs almost $5 in the regular grocery store.
Aldi's knock-off brand (which is just as good) is $2.29
I'm looking at the ad, now.
Cauliflower, $1.29 a head.
Broccoli, $1.19 for a pound package.
Baby Cut Carrots, $.49/lb.
Avocados, $.49/ea
Non-fat Yogurt, $.39/6 0z
Celery, $.89/ea.
Grape tomatoes, $1.29/pt
Salsa, $1.69/24 oz
Gourmet Cookies, $2.89/14 oz
Clancy's Potato Chips, $1.49/10.5 oz
Cheese blocks, $1.49/8 oz
Hummus, $1.69/8 oz
Kirkwood Hot & Spicy Wings, $5.49/28 oz
Fresh ground chicken, $2.69/lb
I don't know how different prices are for you and for me, but around here, those are very good prices.
Especially those carrots and avocados!!!!
Some people who don't live close to an Aldi's will make a 'stock up' trip, every month or so.
It's hard to stretch a buck at the grocery store, but it's the one area where we can usually cut back, if we have to.
And I don't mean cut back on the amount of food.
I mean, look over all the meals you make and stick with the cheapest ones.
When I was really, really poverty stricken, we pretty much lived on the cheapest canned tuna fish, the cheapest macaroni and cheese we could get and the cheapest peanut butter.
(Peanut butter is no longer the bargain that it used to be.)
The outlet stores for name brand breads and cakes have some really good deals.
If you're willing to really work at it, you can probably cut down a bit on grocery expenses -- but it takes some time and energy.
And you have to factor in gas these days, if you drive and none of these places are close by.
And as SunCloud says, eggs are a very good bargain.
Stir-fry is tasty and cheap!!
Shred about 4 cups of cabbage, and add one cups of cooked meat or chicken, cut into short, thin strips, a little soy sauce, a pinch of brown sugar (or white), sliced green onions or regular ones if they're cheaper and serve over rice.
Add some ginger powder if you have it and like it.
Skip the meat altogether, if you want. It still tastes really good.
I'm extremely fortunate that I don't have to eat as cheaply as I used to, but I still have to focus on the best deals.
I hardly look at the meat department. Only at the very cheapest cuts.
LOL!!!! $12/lb for steak!!? Not in my budget!!!
(Meat's not just murder!! PAYING for it is murder, too!!)
It's funny to watch other people shop, though.
Some of them, I see just blithely grabbing what the want, without so much as glancing at the price.
And when I'm behind that sort of shopper in the checkout line, I almost faint when I hear the total.
A rather small load of all name brand stuff and it cost over $90!!
Maybe you'll get lucky with what's in your freezer and come up with something creative and delicious!!
That would be nice, to tide you over!!
I hope you guys make out okay!!!
BTW did you know you can freeze eggs? Just lightly beat them first and they're good for a month at least. Cheese too, and butter of course.
I'm not really being frugal if I don't see "you saved 40%" on my grocery receipt.
i used to make bean burgers...very good!! and good for you.
i saw on the news yesterday morning that milk could hit 6 dollars!!
yikes!!!
I buy a Protein drink through a friend through a huge gym club and it lasts me about 6 months. So I have a protein drink for a meal 5 times a week.
I don't eat beef.
There is never anyone to go with so I don't eat out.
My doctor said I was close to Diabitis so I eat a really monotous meal plan. Chicken is the only high price item. But I get frozen cutlets for $10 and thats about 14 days worth.
Here I thought I was going crazy again but I guess the price of food is really up.
Yes I am aware of aldi's and I will be going to one soon. I just didn't go that day because of snow situations.
Hopefully I can find cheap meals there. So far so good.
