Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

As many of you may know, I'm a foul weather flyer here. I've made peace with the fact that I'm a DS mooch, and once again here I am. I'm personally ok at the moment. Headed down, but not crashing. Nothing time and my meds can't handle (as they usually do.)
I have been married for about a year and a half. We've had a good relationship, but I'm finding out that she has some severe issues with depression. She's very hard to live with as a result and it's causing some problems between us. Her moods affect me very badly and I try to be as helpful as possible, but she states that she simply can't talk to me about her problems because of the way I act when she does. It's not intentional, but I know it's because of my own issues with BP depression.
She doesn't seem to be interested in getting a proper diagnosis and treatment from a Psychiatrist. She's always stressed out causing me to always be stressed out, and we argue or mope around a lot. It's really dragging me down.
Lately, I have been thinking how much easier it would be to live a simpler life. We have no children together and each of us has kids from a previous marriage. I think I still love her, but as you all know, depression masks happy thoughts, so at the moment I don't know what the hell is real and what isn't.
I have to worry about my long term mental health and I need to know if this is worth sticking with or if we need to part ways while it's relatively uncomplicated. I know those of you are going to give me the standard answer including marriage counseling as part of your response. That is something I've considered. The problem though isn't our relationship "together." It's the issue of her depression having the affect on me. I don't know that marriage counseling fixes that. I also know that I am not able to tell her exactly what stresses and bothers me for fear that it will create more depression for her.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...
I wish you the best of luck.
Have you thought of therapy for yourself? A good therapist can help you problem solve and come to the best conclusions given your circumstances. I'm sure there are many parts of your story that don't fit neatly in to a box or a post in this instance.
We have to love ourselves first and then other person enough to do what's best for each of you as individuals. Maybe what's best is staying together, maybe not. As you know, the chemical imbalance is out of our control, but to keep fighting for a better life...that's our choice (i.e. med compliance and therapy).
I think a lot of us understand how hard it can be to navigate this illness especially when it comes to relationships. You are not alone. All the best.
