Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I'd suggest you get a psychiatrist's opinion because at the end of the day that is the only way to move forward. If you are bipolar then you almost certainly will require medication or you are a danger to yourself and possibly others.
Certainly addiction as a way of self medicating is the way some bipolar people try to deal. Problem is that when people are using then everything tends to get ascribed to that and the bipolar that is driving it overlooked.
You seem coherent so that would be another reason why I would tend to think you are not truely "manic" but then some people can appear rational when they are in fact quite unwell.
You might find the list of symptoms below as helpful. I've picked the ones that I think tend to be only in bipolar and ones that are distinctive. You will find tests online that ask "do you sometimes feel happy and sometimes sad for no particular reason?" to which most people say yes and it tells them they are bipolar which is nonesense.
These symptoms would need to last for days, weeks or months..
talking very quicklly and jumping form one subject to another so that others cannot understand you
being unable to sleep at night due to mental chatter and ideas
having lots of ideas, importantant plans and starting multiple projects or ventures which in retrospect seem unreasonable.
being delusional, as in thinking you are being watched by the CIA, you are Jesus Christ
having hallucinations and not realising at the time that they were not real
doing things that often have disastrous consequences, such as spending large sums of money on expensive and sometimes unaffordable items, sexual exploits, physically taking risks - which are out of character.
hope that helps
