Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Does anyone else feel that (if you are a creative person) when you are on mood suppressing medications that you lose that side of yourself a bit?
I just feel like I have nothing good to write about. Nothing good to draw. Nothing good to make.
It's driving me mad. I really want to write but I feel so numb to words. I feel like nothing I would write at the moment would be any good at all.
How do you all find yourselves again, once the meds kick in?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Here is the explanation for me at least.
Creativity requires,
1. motivation to create,
2. inspiration,
3. motivation to execute and
4. execution.
BP may aid 1,2 & 3 in elevated states (but then decrease in depressed states)..but then again it may not. I would suggest that both elevated and depressed states make 4. execution more difficult. So you are a person with great ideas but nothing produced. That is not really creativity despite what people think.
However, people can be over medicatated or on the wrong meds.
Anyway, the word loss prob. takes me away from writing and even gives me a hard time posting here at Ds. I have good days and bad days with it.
For me I seem to interpret anything in light of the extremes. If I am not suicidal, then I must not really be depressed. If I am not full of energy, then I must be feeling nothing (i. e. a zombie) Thus the hardest thing is to stop living on the edges, and build a life in the middle.
ha, I both agree and disagree with fish (and I Never disagree with fish!)
My bipolar allows me to get Amazing things done when I am "less" medicated, creatively-wise and everything else.
...but there is a Cost, and I know it.
The medications stablize, and allow me to travel in steps 1-4, as fish has explained, but it becomes a Process, rather than one Amazing action, all at once....
You're still there, Shlay. It's just going to require learning the steps, as we Should have done all along, and that takes Work.
(some of us don't Like the work, lol)
Finding yourself takes time, but your creative nature will emerge again, and inspire you to action.
