Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I think I have learned helplessness. I heard the term awhile back. Here's the Oxford definition: a condition in which a person suffers from a sense of powerlessness, arising from a traumatic event or persistent failure to succeed. It is thought to be one of the underlying causes of depression.
I have an appointment with my therapist this week so I'm going to ask her about this and what can be done about it.
This is probably why I haven't been able to move forward like I planned to do. I just experience tremendous fear when I try to make a change about most things.
Has anyone experienced this?

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

Hey All...I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful beginning of your weekI have a bunch of chores that need doing but may put them off til tomorrow and just hang out with my landlord/roomie todayWhat about you?...Anything special going on?Have a great day and take good care of you!!..Xo
I wasn't in special ed. in school. Because of my mom's drinking, I had to take care of myself. I think mine came from having experienced so many traumatic experiences in my life, I figure bad things are going to happen to me so. I'm scared to do things. It's a terrible feeling.
An old friend once told me, don't say too much personal stuff at work. I never listened to that.
I think anyone who has had a dance with depression has also had a dance with learned helplessness...It's taken me years to "get it." I have to really think about my day and what I need to get through it...
Sounds easy but it's anything but. I often don't even know what I need...Having a book to read while I wait for the bus, bringing along that thermos of tea to drink while I wait some more etc.
It's thinking of myself...something I rarely do! I suspect something most of us rarely do.
Big hugs everyone.
