Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I take multivitamin, D (good for mood), L-cysteine (again, same deal, allegedly), Fish Oil, Flaxseed oil, C, B's
Think it's worth trying, good adjunct to the psych meds..fish oil is a really good idea, especially..at least, it gets a lot of hype!
lou, I've been taking flaxseed for the omegas. I just got finished reading about B's and how they affect absorption of nutrients. I'm adding those to my list. I heard they help the body deal with stressors too.....god knows we probably could all use that!...lol
I take lots of vitamins and I think it helps. Sam-e is supposed to be helpful for mood swings and melatonin is helpful for getting to sleep but no side effects that I know of......

I also stopped a mood stabilizer and started a psychostimulant (Ritalin) in the midst of this, so that may have something to do with it too. But yes, as racefios says, diet is the best way to get your nutrients. I do not eat certain foods high on the glycemic index and try to eat organic and a variety of colored fruits and vegetables and not so much animal protein of full fat cheeses that can cause inflammation.
I also make a good smoothie with this protein powder made by IronTek that I get at the health food store. It has a good amino acid profile.
Another thing I am looking into, is supplementing with liquid minerals.
