I was just curious as to who takes klonopin and for how long?? Do you think you've built up a tolerance to the drug and need more of it to get the desired affect??
I've been taking them for 10 years, having alot of breakthrough anxiety/panic, therapist talks about detox and is freaking me out.....I do "binge" at times and mix the klonopin with some of my other meds to combat the extreme anxiety that I feel. Haven't talked to the pdoc yet, half afraid to tell him that I occasionally abuse my meds, in fear that he'll just stop writing the script. I do plan on telling him at my next appt. though. Not sure what the hell I'm doing......sigh.

Seroquel has worked not too bad on my anxiety. I know some of the SSRIs are supposed to help too. Years ago Paxil worked well for me for about 5 years.
I have been an awfulizer since childhood. My mind can be a very dark place. So I am thankful for the meds that can quiet it. I agree too with Sufferjet. Doc may take you off too soon if you tell but it's up to you. And going through a slow withdrawal and eventually stopping altogether is up to you. Panic attacks suck. No matter how many you've had. Good luck.
Klonopin has saved the day for me this past week. My panic attacks are out of control, and at least this med is making them more manageable. The key for me is to take it only when necessary.
I don't think he will make you stop Klonopin totally..he will ask you to stop self medicating and to use the med as directed...if you need a stronger dose ,he wants what is best for you,and will advise you accordingly
I am not a fan of Klonopin. Two of my friends and my son became addicted to it. If you find yourself taking more than you should, consider that you are already at risk. There are other things you can do for anxiety and panic attacks along with using benzo's very carefully and minimally. A pill wont take away years of "learned behaviors" that we may need to come to terms with.
I used to have horrible anxiety and panic attacks and still periodically have them. But, I have learned a great deal of coping skills that make it possible for me to very rarely take a benzo.
I know some people "need" them to manage their anxiety/panic but I think they should be a last resort not a solution. your body does build up a tolerance and the break through anxiety becomes even worse than before. Only you can decide how you view your use of the drug but I strongly recommend you be open and honest with your doctors or they cannot effectively help you and you are wasting your time with them. They are more of a pharmacist than a doc if you do that.
I do plan on telling the pdoc...I'm hoping that he helps me to titrate down alot! Perhaps to the point that I'm not taking any.
I've been having alot of cbt and dbt and learning new ways to cope with the anxiety....but I still have "blow outs" that are pretty bad at times. I get triggered and everything feels like the end of the world and I'll go running for the klonopin.
I really wish that the doc that intitally ordered the klonopin was more up front and told me that they really aren't for long term use. I am addicted, I know I have a problem with them and I can't find a center that keeps you more then 7 days for detox. My therapist is highly recomending a 28 day treatment center, but I've yet to find one that takes my insurance. I feel very screwed at this point.
I take Klonopin 3x a day at 1 mg and have been for about 2 years. It hasn't lost its effectiveness, but I don't have the need to mix it with other meds.
I do agree after such a long time you probably have built up a tolerance and need an adjunct treatment for the anxiety, but you may have blown your chances of keeping the Klonopin on board by abusing it. Just be honest with your pdoc and take his advice.
Good lucks,
Vickie
