Hello... I've just been diagnosed with bipolar and possibly borderline personality disorder. I saw the psychiatrist for the 2nd time and he gave me a prescription for a mood stabilizer. I can't start taking it until I get the lab work he wants done... I think I'll go tomorrow and get it done. There is a chance I may be pregnant so we have to make sure I'm not.. and get some baseline info... before I start this medicine.
I don't like being labeled... but it's time I got help... I have been this way for as long as I can remember..
I'm married, have a 2 year old daughter (who is possibly special needs), work full time and go to school part time. Sometimes I think I just take too much on but I can't/refuse to drop anything....
I've been seeing a therapist for a year and a half... and sometimes he makes me so mad...like he doesn't get it... and I don't either and I can't control my anger.. so I leave bad voice mails... If you see a therapist for your bipolar.. what type of therapist do you see? and how often? I feel like I'm left hanging a lot... and.. I hate that! for a while my general practitioner was keeping tabs on me between my therapy appts but he has turned me over to the psych and therapist... and I still feel like I'm just hanging here... so I decided it was time to find a support group.
Thanks for reading.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Please get your lab work done immediately! It is an important part of diagnosing you! I understand that lab work is usually step one after the first visit to a psychiatrist.
I worked with counselors for decades. Each one taught me something that I already knew (it's like they each had a bag like the Wizard of Oz, and each one gave me a gift that I already had, like the heart for the tin man). All totalled up, they diagnosed me with about 1/4 of the DSM, even though they weren't qualified to do so. Finally, one particularly dim counselor referred me to a psychopharmocologist. That PDoc did me a world of good and referred me to a real therapist; I mean one who really helps me to function better. I mean, really, would you go to a physical therapist who thought you needed to learn how to run when you had difficulty walking? My therapist took me back to the basics and is tremendously wise when I run into thick tangles that I can't find my way out of. I met with her weekly for 1 1/2 years, and now skip a week each month. I would meet with her less often if I had fewer triggers and crises and challenges to deal with.
Best wishes to you! Keep us informed! Hope to see you here often!
i also believe that at least til you know a therapist, and they know you well, depending on how you are, you should see the therapist weekly. communication and trust is of utmost importance. i "fired" one of my therapists because she didnt' quite understand, and i would leave after seeing her feelign worse than better.
i also suggest to communicate with your tdoc and pdoc, a moodchart of sorts. i use one on moodtracker.com. particularly since you it seems that you are lacking in communication.
i do not however condone leaving nasty voice messages on their machine. just like you would demand respect, they shall too. i think you are overstepping your boundaries with your therapist... please don't take offense with me though. i am glad you came here for group support!!
Yes! ...sky, I, too trust my therapist to the point now that I take her word for it when she says that I was hypomanic or anxious or normal. It's those weekly meetings that build the relationship or reveal a mismatch.
Good point ...sky about the voice mails. Sometimes a good therapist makes us mad and it helps us to learn, but if your therapist makes you mad because s/he doesn't get it, then it's time to change therapists!
Seeing a therapist can be very frustrating when your not medicated Trying to deal with the roller coaster and being patient is difficult. The goal is finding the right meds. Therapy can be so important to deal with bp. Find out as much as you can about this illness. It will empower you to work with your pdr and tdr. Good luck to you.

I really seem to have a problem with rage.... my daughter had a meeting today for her services... and.. I couldn't make it so my husband handled it and didn't give me all the facts.. I got mad because they didn't do what they promised... I called all the members of her team and left msgs. NOT bad ones.. just hey I'm a little frustrated can you explain please... but I think you could tell by my tone I was about to blow my top... then when I got it straightened out and it came down to my husband not paying attention I wanted to ream him! but I didn't..... so.... I feel all uptight and tense now.... but I KNOW better than to lash out at someone.. So I'm just being quiet........
I think this group is going to be a good thing. Thanks everyone that responded!
