It doesn't matter if they have a key.I assume police n Judge would suggest that u change your locks.
No you do not need to advise, tell nor get permission to do so. But u do need to provide other legal resident of house, a door keys.
Simply take grocery money n go to Wal mart n buy new door locks. they are actually easy to install. If the other legal resident keeps on provideing the robbers keys, he is aid ing in non resident criminal activitys. some of criminal activitys against you n your home ...
they have also prevented you from having peace in your life, on your property, your legal residentcy n in your home.
If needed keep on changeing the locks n calling 911 to report crimes against you n your property n home.I personally wouldn't care how much a rm mate becomes vocal in anger, nor insist on aid ing in criminal acts n throws temper tamptums about my consistantly changeing locks for my over all well being, I will protect my well being n my property n to keep my having peace.
Feed the nut peanutbutter sandw's if you half to keep on useing grocery money to consistantly buy new door locks.
Have u contact pawn shops to aleart them of your stolen property, so that they will aleart the police n do what they do regarding someone trying to pawn stolen property !
I would get a police report so that I would at least have a record of incident...s. being that I can not show proof that he aid ed in crime nor prove that criminals stoled property nor have photos of items nor recites & can't prove that they invated your home. To protect myself from them possible counter sue ing I wouldn't press charges but I would get an incident report.
I have security - cams on outside n in my home. from my lap top I can c outside n rms within my home.Hint.
Now regarding your rm mate/husband, based on your post, I must say that he is an abuser.
You do not half to tolerate/ put up w such crap. Protect your over all well being.Based on your post, the law is on your side.
U do not half to tell what you might do or want to do ... you do not half to interact - be drawn into a person ranting - dis funk, you do not even half to pre warn a criminal nor anyone who aids in a criminal act of what you may or may not do... always maintain control your emotions/ keep your cool.
I have BP n I have P-DR. I'm under care of my P-Dr - I'm a patient of my P-Dr. there are others laws besize the so called reg laws that protect me n people who have disability n who are senior citizens.Know that you have legal rights n protection.
Sorry that this has happen to you. I think that is stressful n dishearting. Breath.calm down. listen to some relaxing music n/or take bubble bth,get a good night sleep. In morning refrain from confrontation, enjoy your coffee n change the locks. While your changeing out locks refraim from being sucked into dis funk confrontation, after lock have been change I wouldn't say anything as I set, 1 set of new keys on table next to my rm mate.
Go on about your day n relax. maintain your composure n emotions.
Sorry for being long winded but crimes against us,tick me off.

The nerve!! I'm sorry you and your hubby are having to deal with this. If I were you, I wouldn't hesitate in calling the police. Items are missing -- they were in your home without invitation ..... Even if nothing comes of it with the police, you have put your stepson and his wife on notice that you are no longer messing around.
Be prepared -- it may get a little ugly for a while but the only way to get past this continuous loop of disrespect is to bite the bullet and weather through it.
Admiral has a great idea -- change the locks and use them. It's hard on you to be suspicious and resentful of them. It's time you take steps to protect the sanctity of your home and the sanity of your mind. Good luck!!
Things were missing, drawers in disarray. They got so comfortable in my home, they called me at work to ask for MY password to MY account so they could log on to MY computer.
I made some house rules. Nobody in the bedrooms, guests use the guest bathroom, and absolutely NO rambling in my home. They were using the divide and conquer on hubby and he was too trusting to catch on.
Then my jewelry came up missing. Everything, including my first wedding ring set from 28 years ago. My heart was broken. I called them on the phone and told them if my jewelry was not back in my hands withing 30 minutes, I would call the police. This made them very angry and they came by and threw my jewelry at me, but at least I got it back.
Final straw was we had an identity theft this year. Money missing from accounts, twenty two checks bouncing all over town and collection agency calls. I didn't name them in the theft yet they don't speak to me now. They are very angry with me!??!
Point is - it will only get worse Jenn if you don't put a stop to it now!! Yes, it's going to make them very angry when they can't run all over you anymore. You just stand strong and discuss it with your husband.
First thing is to change the locks - if you have to do it yourself. Then give notice of your 'house rules'. I think I would make a police report just for insurance and income tax purposes.
Good luck, Jenn, on taking YOUR home back. Direct your anger at the ones who have earned it rather than turning it back on yourself. You don't deserve to be treated this way.
