Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I've been seeing "Ken",my therapist, for a year now. Recently he made a couple of mistakes,by that I mean you could say his behavior was unprofessional (and it didn't involve him making a pass at me or anything like that). I confronted him,he apologized and we've moved on. But one of my sisters took offense about it and doesn't seem to want to let the matter drop. Yesterday, for example, I had a late afternoon appointment with Ken and I was extremely frustrated with something in my life, and by the time I left I was laughing and felt as if the world had been lifted off my shoulders. I had a nice drive home,BUT later my sister "Renee" called and said something like "I'm surprised you're still seeing Ken after what he did". I'd like to say that I stood up to her,but instead I crumbled and said I'd look for someone else because she was more important to me than he was.
I've had a whole day to ponder it and reminded myself that talking with Ken had made me feel so much better and then Renee got me upset all over again. That didn't seem sisterly or loving to me. Besides, like I said, I've been seeing Ken for a year now,I feel like he understands me and I forgave him long ago for his gaffes. I admit I'm afraid of Renee and have been pretty much my whole life. She is without doubt the angriest person I know and she personalizes every little perceived slight. SHE should be seeing a therapist,in my opinion. I think the problem is that I tell my family too much about my life in general.Right now,and for some time,I've been unable to restrain myself from talking with them about personal matters, because I know how they are,but then I think that they're my family and I should be able to tell them certain things. Btw neither Renee nor any of the others have the faintest clue what it's like to have bipolar or how therapy works. To me their attitude toward me is condescending and patronizing, and I get angry just thinking about it.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I know what it is like having angry siblings; i have two. Mine hold on to their grudges for the longest time. But when they finally let go, they often over love the person they had hated for so long. But while they're angry, they are so impatient and quick to flare up at you if you stick up for said person.
Be honest with your sister re: your therapist. She may voice her opinion rudely, but at least you're showing integrity by not fanning the flames.
You might try NOT telling your family anything about your BP/Therapy. It seems to only hurt you. Tell your therapist and have him give you the encouragement you need to make that big step. It can be done and once it's done you'll feel such relief and wonder why you hadn't done it sooner. Honest!!
I pray for you to get the strength, it may take some time, but you can do it w/your therapists help.
Hugs to you Loddy!!
If you like this therapist then I agree with everyone else that it'd be good to continue!
You titled this Thread, "Issues With Tdoc" when in reality the Issues are with your Sister. You need to simply tell your sister, this is your life, Tdocs that your comfortable with and trust are not easy to come by, and switching them is not easy, it could take 2 or 3 before you find another one you like and are comfortable with.
If Ken is doing his job, if you still like him and trust him, if he is not in any way abusing you, your trust or your mental state...then there's absolutely NO reason you should leave him to go through the hassle of trying to find a new one. Your sister just needs to get over it.
This is your life, not hers.
