Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hi everyone. I'm wondering if other folks with bipolar find themselves with the same difficulty I have. I find it very difficult to socialize with people. I get tense and try to dig up things to help carry my end of a conversation and I draw mostly blanks and the conversation ends fairly quickly. It is the same with people who I'm friendly with and who want to strick up a friendship -- I am a good listener to their end of a conversation but when it comes to my end I come up with blanks. I lead a pretty quiet life, am not involved in anything outside of home except for church and church activities and find it easier to live this way. I become tense and anxious with other people. I joined a ladies bible study group and it takes effort on my part to make myself go. I know I need to socialize but it is very difficult. Is this part of bipolar anxiety? Is the effort just exhausting and creating the difficulty? I don't know what to make of it. It's always been a problem for me. I'm not depressed - this is a problem when I'm not depressed. When I'm depressed I avoid people when I can. We have been invited to a 4th of July gathering at a friend's house and I want to go and yet I don't. I will have to mingle. I'll feel overstimulated or almost overwhelmed and yet I will force myself to stay for my husbands sake. I find socializing difficult. We have a coffee bar with snacks in the gym between the first and second services at church where people can connect. My husband loves this time to meet up with lots of people. I go there and quietly hang out and maybe connect with a couple of folks but our conversations don't last long. I'm trying to break out of this shell but its very difficult and very uncomfortable. If it wasn't for my husband who is very social, I don't think I would try so hard. Is it just me or does anyone else find it difficult, uncomfortable or overstimulating or whatever?

Woke up feeling very emotional and about to clock in at my place of employment. And can't place it all in writing but not been a good experience with my store manager or his boss. Defamation of my character is a concern. I've been losing appetite and weight. Trying to perform at work to keep myself from hospitalization as a result of toxic masculinity.

This started many years ago for me however I was very social for a long time
What I did what to get out and about was to get involved in different types of volunteer work....
. It really helped me by feeling good about what I was doing at the same time I was interacting with other people regularly
I also was able to get involved with involved with things that I really cared about and felt passionate about and spend time with people interacting...… talking and having common things to discuss
It really is a win/win …… Big hug......xo
I also struggle with anxiety but my biggest anxieties come from certain people/places/situations that trigger me and not socializing or making friends in general.
Me, I suffer from social anxiety possibly as part of my autistic tendancy so I don't find it easy to make or even want friends.
It’s great you’ve found a church home. I’ve heard of more clergy learning more about mental health conditions and I think it’s a wonderful move toward compassion and understanding. Other groups too can help us out of the social anxiety times. An art group or knitting circle. Book clubs, history. It helps when there is a common interest because I just think sometimes social anxiety makes it hard to be ourselves, because there’s this mental health thing we’ve experienced. I hope and pray you can keep reaching out socially and you can find a connection with some wonderful people nearby. If you feel overwhelmed in a social setting, sometimes just a sincere smile can put things at ease.
i have no interest and no interest in even trying anymore.
Sometimes I miss having someone to meet in person at places, or when I take roadtrips..I miss having a travel companion. But I do most things by myself. Dunno. As I got older, I am having a harder time making actual face to face friends.
