Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I've recently been diagnosed, but really want to improve my current social situation, having decided to cut off the people who are having a negative effect on my situation.
I have no problems socialising when I'm up, but when I'm feeling normal I'm aprehensive about what they might think of me when they realise I'm moody and obnoxious, and when I'm down I just shut everything else out- my social skills go right out the window. But I really want to have some sort of social life.
I'd be interested to know from anyone out there who has any experience or views on telling people that you are bipolar- i.e. when and how to do it.
I think the casual approach is best, but only with the right people.
I'd also like to hear from people holding down demanding jobs with BP- can it be done? Or am I asking for trouble by pursuing a demanding career? Perhaps you can suggest careers that are well suited to people with BP (ie ones where its possible to take career breaks etc.)
Thanks
Guy

Happy Tuesday. I only have a few tasks today. I'm currently enjoying my coffee and checking social media and emails. It's gonna be almost 90 degrees today so I have to monitor the dogs outside activities How's Tuesday looking for you?

As for letting people know about my BP... My family knows and some of my co-workers, most just knew something was wrong and asked politely. I had to tell my bosses because I was missing alot of work. They were very supportive though and continue to be. I'm very careful who I tell, and it's usually people that I know are compassionate.
You hit the nail on the head with your desciption of your cycles. Sounds like me and most all of us BP's. I gave up a wonderful fulltime job as an optician cuz I would get in a bad mood and tell the patients to go FU** of etc.... Now I stay home . I've been diagnosed for 12-13 years but I know I had it as early as 12. Ya just say, that's the hand I've been delt and carry on, I guess...
Pursue what your heart desires and see where it takes you Guy! Best wishes.
