Personally, if I felt so bad that I would turn to alcohol or other drugs or if I started to abuse my medications, I would tell my doctor since that is the only chance I would have of stopping my self destruction.

Also are you able to possibly change your pdoc?

I don't think you have to worry about your employer finding out the details of your disability due to the "confidentiality ' aspects. However, if you are intending to look for a new pdoc you may only need to tell the new doc all your info. I hope this helps. Be Well-- BONZ

My pdoc prefers me not to drink and I know how I get if I do.Drnking on meds can be dangerous.
For me drinking is instant mania!For the most part I dont drink it gets to scarry.But if I did I wouldnt tell her.Drinking prevents your meds from working.But with my pdoc she knows more about me than I do because my last hospitalisation she asked for my file from the county who treated me when I was battling my self medicating addictions and bp.

The only pill I take for self med is vicodin it does help my mood and pulls me out of a oncoming depression.Wich I do not tell my pdoc about.I did tell my pdoc at my last visit that I am smoking a small amount of pot and she just gave me a look and said I am glad you are not drinking.

60% of beepers abuse alcohol and drugs and most all of us have self medicated at times.So its no real suprise for a good pdoc for us to self medicate.

I know my pdoc is looking on how well I can cope with life and what I say and look like when I am in front of her.So I must be doing somthing write because my appt are now every 8 weeks.

our bp meds and alcohol do not mix!

If you're drinking and pilling then your med, as prescribed, aren't doing their job. I think you should tell the Pdoc what you've been doing but more importantly, how you've been feeling. Hopefully, he'll tweak your meds and you will get better than you've been.
I'd worry too, about the notes going to your short term disability claim because I don't know if they include that kind of information or not, but if I had to guess, I'd say that they WOULDN'T include that information. I would think that they would just include your diagnosis.

I agree with what Carla said; your meds aren't working well enough if you're self medicating. Tell your pdoc. They can help you.
I wouldn't think it would affect your disability. But I can't say for certain.
