I can affirm to him not listening to ANYTHING and denying til he's blue in the face something you just witnessed him doing....I wish I had some sort of advice. If he was my kid he'd probably be dead by now. (jk)

It could depend on how old he is and which disorders he has been diagnosed with. If he is school age, you might even get some ideas from the teachers of how they manage him through the day.

For example some kids are more visual and require a visual schedule so they can have structure to their life. He may be just as frustrated as you are.

You might also join a parent support group for his disorders on here if they have one.

Thanks...He has ADHD, ODD and mood disorder. He's been hospitalized a couple of times for behavioral and safety issues. He receives special education b/c of his disorders, including a special bus that picks him up and brings him to and from school (since he apparently can't get along with the kids on the regular bus). He's 9....he's capable of keeping on grade level academically, but he's emotionally and behaviorally like a 3 year old. A 3 year old that cannot be restrained to protect himself and others from the violence he demonstrates (b/c ya know, he's 9...and he's a big 9 year old)

He was in counseling for years, but that was pointless b/c he doesn't listen to anyone about anything. He lies....probably so much that he actually believes he's telling the truth. I don't know how his brain works...I don't understand how/why he can possibly justify within his own mind how he is even close to telling any truth.

I'm sorry this reply is so long....I couldn't possibly tell you everything about him. I'm just trying to describe as best as I can the daily struggle I have to go through. Constant yelling, defiance, verbal attacks, violence (if it comes down to that), and regular threats of suicide. I want to help him....it's been 4 1/2 years since his first hospitalization, so that's how long I've been working with pdocs, tdocs, meds, crisis stabilization, special ed, government assistance programs for disabled children, social workers that visit my home to assess his living situation....God knows what else. I don't know what else I can do!!!!

The reason I had suggested possibly getting ideas from his teachers is they have him all day and have figured out something that is working well enough to get him through the day.

I was an Exceptional Children's teacher for 15 years. I often had parents ask for ideas that could continue on into the home. I see you have already worked with several different agencies, but there is always hope one of them can help in some way.

If you could find out exactly what he does at school that gives him any success it would be useful for you at home.
