I have a ford escape mini SUV.but my wife is finally talking about getting her license. I am looking for a used car between 3k and 5k cash but I am not sure what kind I should look for. I would like one that gets better MPG and that is not too big.

Any suggestions on what kinds I should be looking for would be greatly appriciated.

escapes have a lot of get up and go. My husbands last work car was one. Little noisy inside though. Gas mileage was decent.

I drove a 2001 saturn SL2 a while back, got close to 30 MPG... handled like a dream.

I like the idea of a saturn they seem to be as reliable as the accord. How many cylnders really matters I have a v6 in my escape but I am looking for a four cylender

My SL2 had 4 cylinders, but a lot of Zip. I've had two saturns actually, a 94 that I recently gave to my dad.

I drive a saturn. It is great with mpg and is very affordable for used cars.

I love my Saturn!!! I bought it used in '95. It's a '94. It's still running great, although I occasionally have had to have repairs of one sort or another, of course!!
When it dies, I plan on getting another Saturn, if they still make 'em as good as they did then!!!

toyota camry 1998-
honda civic 1998-

both can go up to 150,000-180,000 miles befor big problems come up

Pretty good gas mileage

Good trunk space too

i have a 96 dodge ram. she has almost 200,000 miles. i have to dump oil and power steering fluid in her all the time. she smokes like a freight train and her gas mileage sucks.
i love her tho. she always gets me to where i'm going...xx

I have my little Mercedes SLK but it's only a two seater and does about 2 miles to the gallon...rofl. I don't think that would suit. It's a strictly in the summer ride for me without the kids, posing in Zurich...lol! I'm so predictable!

saturns are good. the compact fords are good.

If you can find a good deal on a used Toyota, take it. Best used car I had was a used Corolla.
