Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I like what WendyML, MagicKingdom and Morrisbeal all said. In sum, yes, take care of yourself and be strategic. After you get yourself settled and cared for, get legal help. This sounds good.
I like what you said about being able to see the children when they turn 18. There are two things that I can say:
1. The years can fly by.
2. All those years, they will know who you are and they won't forget about it. Most likely, they will know when a relative is telling lies-My daughter knew when folks were lying about me, and NOW she's back with mom!
3. Legal action is important because-although the relatives might think that you might be unfit, what they don't get is that your illness might be good because you know when to check yourself and that caution can contribute to GOOD PARENTING. A stable parent with mental illness often has the advantage in that in keeping with humility and constant moral inventory checking, the m.i. parent has knowledge and is willing to look for knowledge and can solve problems creatively.
4. A far more dangerous parent is one with a closed mind and a stiff black and white perspective. Blind prejudice is a far more dangerous than an m.i. parent who knows where to get help and whose intelligence will get them what they need. The m.i. mind is far more flexible and creative and thus with stablization can be a far more colorful, beautiful, flexible and more compassionate parent.

I can tell you this as well. Often, the tables DO turn. My former MIL is self rightous and her husband has been unfaithful. To stay with her hubby, she has to put up with adultery. My former husband has chosen his spouse over his child. After being bitten and slapped by someone "sane"-My daughter firstly came to my sister's house because I didn't know if I was "fit." NOW, my daughter is coming to my house. There we are--the grandparents are still in the picture, but not the father and not the step mother. Wonder why.
No my dear--There might be painful years, but I can gauaruntee that the conservative small minded, predjudiced moron who wants to control everyone and everything--they always pay for what they do--Think--they must deal with themselves on a daily basis. Arent' you glad that you don't look into their mirror?
______________
In the end, you will be known for your strength and your perserverence. You will stand when they will fall. Let them have their time-for THEIR TIME is coming soon.

Get a lawyer who knows Family Law. The goal is to get some motion made wherein what your aunt or uncle have to disclose exactly what they do and when.

And also, there is this awful thing that I go through all the time where I feel like I am a second class citizen but at the same time I don't want to get into trouble. I bite my toungue at times when I know that I am not being listned to or when I am being disrespected. The people with whom I interact KNOW that they can get away with just that edge of unfairness because they can discredit me some way. I always have to find a diplomatic way to handle my frustration and this is what we must learn to do. Apply this to any situation where someone can say "Well, you know, she's mentally ill.........."
For example, today, I sent a simple email to one of the mail people here at work asking about how we do international mail. I could assume that he didn't see the mail, but I know that he probably thought it was just "mess from the crazy woman." So, to make sure that my message was clear, I went and spoke to someone else at the mail room to INSURE that they knew that I meant business, that I am a person to be respected and that I need to know how to mail items internationally. I was diplomatic but assertive. Some folks will call me paranoid but I know how "normal folk" can get.
Yea, a lot of times when Richard, my son gets out of control, I can't do anything about the situation just then in public because you know, "I'm mental" but later-Oh yea, I remember the moment and we get into the truck and I have a talk with him. I deny him his XBOX for a day as a consequence. That normally works. Yea.
Forgetting stuff:
Today, on an unrelated matter where I might have forgotten something, I re-sent my order out and I MADE COPIES and I got a NOTARY TO STAMP EVERYTHING WITH MY ORDER. The idiots can't do anything because it is DOCUMENTED that I did what was supposed to. Being organized with documentation and also staying one step ahead.........
My friend Gladys is in love with a Pakistanti. She married this dude who works in Dubai. The Immigration people give her heck about everything!! So, she documents everything, rechecks everything and is organized. Though they try to cut her off and say this and that and make excuses, she documents it all!! THIS TIME they said that she didn't have "original documentation of her changing her name"--By God-Her hubby fixed that and got the original documents to her!!!
Prayers for you and for Gladys-The situations are different, but they are both of a legal nature, so.......
That's my rant for today. I will stop now. You know, a BP II can just obsess the heck out of anything just about...........
that alone takes a very strong heart/mind!
