Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I don't think that I mean to stretch the truth or lie. I don't think that I am a dishonest person by intent.
I think that sometimes, we might find a situation that we wish were true ( I am not implying that you did that, I am talking about my own problems here) or we misinterpret a situation or we see a problem as bigger (again, I am speaking of myself and not you) than it is.
--emotions get bigger than the situation
--we might be under stress and disassociate
--we might misinterpret
--we might not want to see a situation for what it is
I would say that you need to forgive yourself. I think also that talk therapy will help. The great thing about having meds in combo with the therapy is that the brain is straightened out enough to where we can be clearer in our thought.
I'd say to try and clarify stuff as much as possible
"I hear you saying x, y or z."
Or, if you don't want to say too much about your situation, put up a boundary:
"I would rather not discuss this situation. It is very personal/hurtful, etcetera."
Like also, with making promises. I never know what is happening next in my life, so I have resolved to declare an intent but not make promises because I feel that I just can't keep them.
Keep in mind that you are very, very young and for young people in general, the world is so difficult to navigate and people are ugly too and it can be difficult dealing with folks at times.
Staying calm and being diplomatic helps. Trying not to take stuff personally helps.
And don't get too caught up in others self rightousness or their dislike of you. As time goes on, taking care of yourself (in an ethical way that doens't hurt others) will take precedent, and you will realize that other people's problems are because of them and not you, so much.
OF course, taking personal responsibility and apologizing or owning up is very important. I am 44 and I still have that problem. I don't know if I ever will be responsible, truly. BUT learning to be responsible when you are young certainly won't hurt.
It is obvious that you are intelligent, so that will help as well.
Welcome to DS and we are glad that you are here. I didn't even know that he had a whole question section like this--meaning that I knew you could ask a question but I didn't think that there would be this many questions.
Did you see btw how I clarified myself?
I agree we do not judge anyone, we are all here to help each other the best way we can.
I tell my family, friends that I am ok everyday but I am not so they do not have to worry as well.
I think the best thing to do is go see that shrink and tell him/her everything.
