Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Not to sound all *womp womp* but everything lately centers around my depression. From about... Not immediately after I get up, but maybe an hour or so after, off and on until I try to retire to sleep, it's like having an elephant on my chest. It's actually hard to breathe and it panics me because I have a suffocation phobia. I've been huffing and puffing on my steroid inhaler all day the way most college-age kids would be carrying their weed pipe around.
My black-and-white thinking is pretty rampant, half the time my thoughts are consumed with conspiracy and vitriol, just paranoid, cultish, and morbid this-and-that, and then at other times I think, "What? That's insane, I don't believe that at all. I'm not about that."
I want to self-injure almost constantly and I feel I'd be better off using it as a temporary coping mechanism, but I don't have the energy to hide it and I know the other person in the house would send me directly to the state hospital if she saw any evidence on me.
My ability to enjoy anything is compromised beyond repair, it seems. I have friends ringing me up and texting me, asking why we can't hang out. I... Really should be grateful anyone wants to see me at allllll considering how mean and depressed I've been, aside from having so few friends, but I just don't have the energy or will. I can't make myself care.
The few people who still text me first are actually really, REALLY cool people, and I can't even get myself up out of bed to get ready to spend a day with them. I'm terrible.
I have... Weird thoughts about surgical fantasies, I can't explain them to anyone without sounding like a loon with no tether to reality. I told my mum I'd like to be a skeleton because without skin and organs I wouldn't have the visceral pain or bizarre "This isn't my body" feeling I always have, and she (who suffers from severe scoliosis and other skeletal conditions) snapped at me that people can suffer horrendous spinal pain, which made me feel like an asshole because I wasn't even thinking about it that way. It made sense to me in a different way that doesn't make sense if I over-think it in logical medical terms.
I don't know what to do about all of this, I guess. I haven't been this depressed in more than a year, I'm suicidal constantly but I don't want to deal with the mess of precision and consequence. What's the next best thing that isn't inpatient psychiatric help? (Or if you feel "second best" won't do, you can let me know that, too. Whichever.) I'm considering being medicated again, which I haven't even considered a personal option since earlier this year.
Edit: It's 12:33am in the States, eastern time. Sorry about starting off Positive Monday or whatever all fucked-up. I'll think up a positivity thread to post later that'll balance out the darkness in this one.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

Sounds like meds time to me. Since it can take a few weeks for them to start working, can you look into an outpatient program? It's like being in the hospital but you get to go home every night. It's a good safe place to be while waiting for your meds to kick in but no scary roommate or nurses constantly asking you if you pooped today.
It's good you have friends who care!
Have you been checked physically. You mention an inhaler - if it is a steroid, you may be getting an effect from that. Also, you say it doesn't start until you have been up for about an hour. Try eating something within that hour just to see if it helps regulate your blood sugars.
Meds are an option. Everyone is different but I NEED my meds.
Hope you feel better soon.
I'm sorry you are going through such a rough time. i can so relate to the part about not going out with friends. I only have a couple and feel so bad about myself when I turn their offers to do something down. I really have to MAKE myself when I can bc I don't want them giving up on me and stop asking but only one of them knows I'm bp and so he knows if I don't feel like it and understands. Hope these feelings pass soon for ya!

I think that this life drives us to feelings of hopelessness because of how unkind people can be. Humanity has lost its way. You, as a millenial, feel that most auspiciously. It's very hard for you. Millenials feel things viscerally--on the physical level. Environmental decline, wars, elites and the stockmarket, false advertising, reality TV-It can make you want to close the door and never go outside. Sometimes, you want to try annihilation.
I'd get a talk therapist twice a week and I'd journal like crazy. I would write down all of my thoughts. I would try to get a folder going of what I enjoy doing, of my accomplishments and keep goals going.
I'd work towards a goal and keep going. And even if an interest is temporary, that's okay too. My daughter was in Cosmotology school before her time in the Navy. She got an honorable discharge and got married, but the thing is, she didn't give up.
Also, fight for what you believe in--be an advocate, an activist.
What you feel is not trivial at all. Don't let people brush off what you feel.
Try to eat a healthy diet. I know that this is hard. I could really kick the ass of the fashion and make up industry for what they do to teenagers and young women. It makes me very angry.
Now If you like fashion and you like make up you can always channel that into fashion design, or cosmotology or you could make jewelery or do artsy things to be creative--there is nothing wrong with that. Art is good, too, to get into. Just be careful if you go into stained glass-I had a neice that did that and you have to deal with lead. Painting might be better.
IF you go for the arts, make sure to be financially literate. It is possible, though to channel art and emotion into music/sculpture/writing/dance, etc.
You will go through some time of self discovery. My daughter Cathleen went through different career choices, different spiritual paths, different fashions--all in the way of finding yourself. Don't let people trivialize your experience. Keep to the road of goals and of taking care of you.
At this point, you might go a bit "Emo" because life is difficult. Don't go Emo. Stay the course. Don't let the darkness draw you in.
One time Cathleen got so angry at the world all she wanted to do was play "Saints Row" all the time. I am quite surprised that she herself didn't want to cut.
Take life one day at a time. Take care of YOU.
And if you can deal with it, youth groups can sometimes help.
I like that Peter Gabriel song. It fits.
Hugs.
