We have had a massive shift in employment where I work. One person let go and 4 made part time. One of the part time people is moving to Arizona and she and the girl that was let go want to have Happy Hour this Friday after work. I am not comfortable in bars...dinner maybe. But I do NOT trust myself in a bar...I do not want to have any reason to fall of the wagon. The problem is I am already kind of looked at like the black sheep because I recently told them I would not be joining them in a mass confrontation of our boss. I have been told that I am ruining their plans because they wanted to have everyone in on this confrontation...and they are not letting me forget that I am not being a "team player". They don't understand that they could just fire us all. I was made part time...but I need my insurance. I get infusions once a month that get billed at over $11,000...not that insurance pays that but I also get a 50% discount on what they don't pay. I will not lose my insurance. I also don't want to be hated where I work...it has already turned in a JOB not a career. Is there a way to bow out gracefully???

I'm feeling down,, and got alot on my mind right now. I got grief going on, on top my depression and anxiety and now I got to worry about somewhere to live since I can't afford living here since my mom passed. So many bad things have happened since my mom passed. One thing after another it seems. Yesterday our fence fell from a storm that hit, had to call someone to prop it up. Thank...
Sorry all I've got...
Maybe you could suggest that you go out for lunch or supper together in the near future?...x
If asked why not, I'd say personal reasons.
And then I'd tell them I hope they have a great time.
Something came up and you have to go take care of it straight from work.
Family or friend's car broke down and you need to drive them some where?
Someone's kid is sick and you have to go babysit?
If I was going to use the 'sudden emergency' ploy, I'd do it at the very last minute!!!
Clock out and make a casual phone call -- that turns out to be news of some calamity that you have to hurry off and take care of!!!!
That way, they're caught off guard, don't have time to think about it long enough to come up with probing questions, can't blame you for having an emergency, and are on their way to and already thinking about the Happy Hour!!
I have no qualms about not giving reasons to people who try to guilt trip me because I wouldn't join them in confronting management when I didn't want to.
They're the black sheep!!!
I hope you find a way out of going that will not have you worrying about how it's being taken!!!!
