I live w/ my Mom, and she's in the process of a divorce right now. She goes to mediation at the end of May....and she doesn't think she wants to keep the house.

Soooo, I'm going to have to move out. That's fine with me, but I have no idea how long these things take. I don't have any money saved to get the hell out of here. I know that the divorce process can take FOREVER sometimes, but they both seem in a rush to get it over with.

How long do you think I might have to save up for an apartment???

Depending on your state, a divorce doesn't become final for 6 to nine months. The actual court case however is usually only 2 to 3 months depends on whether both party's agree to the divorce

Depends on the deposit and monthly rent. Go shopping now and get an idea of what you need to have to move in. Plus there is a deposit on electricity and gas.

hanna you need to call the family law dept at the clerk of court and ask them how long it takes from mediation agreement to judges approval. maybe 4 to 6 weeks if mediation is agreed on, but you really have to refer to your county and their timing. some are fast others are slow.

My Mom said that she goes to mediation at the end of May and expects to be in court some time in June.

I know how much I need to get out of here...I just don't think I have enough freaking time to save it. Dammit!!!!

hanna, one thing im wondering.. what is she doing with the house?

just because she isnt keeping the house in the divorce doesnt mean she will be moving out right away. she may have a time period beyond the divorce is final to actually move out. you might want to ask your mom to ask the lawyer. why isnt your mom better informing you anyway? do you need the stress of wonder?

She's leaning toward not wanting the house b/c it needs so many repairs. If she doesn't keep the house, then the step-douche will want to sell it, so we'll have to get the hell out so he can do the repairs (he's a foreman for a construction company).

He won't so much as say "hi" to anyone without his lawyer present, so I highly doubt he'll step foot in the house while we live here.

and they're both really pushing for the divorce to be over....so I don't think I'll have much time....and my step-loser really is enough of a douche to tell us we have to get out immediately.

I'm not sure, but I THINK you can refuse to leave until he evicts you, which takes time, and maybe by then you will have the money. Something to look into.
