My food stamps expired. And my car broke down in the library
parking lot. I was sure it was going to be towed away, with my
laptop and clothes inside it. So I broke down, figuring I had no
clothes, no food, and no place to sleep anymore. Was ready
to kill myself. I suicide hotline said to call 911 or go to the
hospital emergency room. So I walked all the way to the hospital.
The kept me for three days, then transferred me to the state
mental hospital. They kept me for six weeks trying to figure
out what to do with me. My social worker there kept telling me
over and over that there is no place in Nevada that will help a
disabled person with no income get permanent housing. The only
option available to me was a temporary shelter. It took six weeks
for them to get me into a shelter. It is very difficult to do. Most of the
time all the beds are taken. But I finally got into one. I will have to
go to the social services office on monday to get a rent voucher
in order to stay there for thirty days. Yes, shelters charge rent.
They are not free. I will try to get my food stamps re certified while
I am there using the shelters address. You have to have a home
address to get food stamps, you can't get them if you live in a car
or are sleeping on the street. It is a really messed up system.
I got into the shelter yesterday and this morning I walked the
mile and a half to the library to get some books - and lo and
behold! My car was still in the parking lot! With all my clothes
and laptop inside! What a miracle! So I was able to retrieve my
laptop and I will carry it and as many clothes as I can back to
the shelter. I have no idea were I will be going in when my time
at the shelter is up. I may have to sleep in the street. It is very
cold out at night now. 28 degrees. I don't know if I will survive.
The mental hospital was a real experience. The staff was nice
for the most part, but the inmates... people yelling and screaming
all the time, people threatening to kill every one, breaking windows
and furniture, guys taking all their clothes off in the day room and
walking around - that happened many times... it was not very nice. I learned a good lesson - next time I am suicidal I will NOT go to
the hospital. They really have no help for me anyway.
So that is what is happening with me. I will be able to come to
the library a few days a week I think, but not every day like I used
to do. I hope all is well with every one. Take care.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

hugs and hopeful your new years is nicer than the year from hell for you...
I am elated to hear , that after everything you've been through, you are still here with us.
I pray that the system can come up with some kind of solution for you.
HUGS !!!
your last line of your Topic says
You say :
"Take Care "
That brought tears to my eyes, because everything you've been through, you still have the heart and compassion to tell us to "Take Care "
Sending my best wishes to you!!! You are on my radar for sure!
Peace, peace, peace,
I hope all is on the road to getting better. Hang in there.
