Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I haven't been on here in a long time but I am in desperate need of help. I am a bipolar 1 manic with psychosis and I fear for my girlfriend and I's relationship. My condition makes her so upset when I am having episodes, and I have a herniated disk on L4 and L5, and both of those combined, I can be extremely nasty to her. She has been nothing but supportive and things have been so hard. I apologize when my episodes are over, but I feel so freaking horrible after I have these episodes that it just turns into depression and she just can't have one moment of peace, or catch a break.
In addition to my severe conditions, her 8 year old son has been diagnosed with ADHD disorder, and has been acting out and we have no idea what is wrong with him. We have asked him several times but he doesn't spit it out, he just says that he is depressed for no reason whatsoever. She cries all of the time and I feel like the worst person in the world. I take all of my medications every day and I just don't know what to do. Has anybody else gone through this? Is there something that I can do or that she can do to prevent so many hurt feelings? There is so much depression and negativity throughout the house that I don't know if I see an end in sight. Please help me and no negative comments because they will push me over the edge, I will not be able to take it.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Her child is around this and it's no good for any of you.... Big squishy hug.....xo
She's either in and can handle it or she's out....but if she's in, she can't grouch at you each time you have an episode and are a bit grumpy or mean. Now the other side is, if she's willing to be all in, you have a responsibility to make sure your getting the treatment that can help you the most, because BiPolar Disorder of any type is a life long disease, and it's a disease that you have to learn to intertwine in your daily life, its the only way it works. You need to be on medication with a Psychiatrist and you need to be in regular Therapy with a Psychologist or Therapist. Generally if your doing all you can to work towards stability your partner is more understanding because your doing all you can.
As for raising a child with ADHD, been there done that. Most children with ADD or ADHD are very intelligent or very artistic, they have tons of emotions running through them that they don't have a clue how to voice or manage or handle, because their children and their brains are not developed enough. Its her job as a parent to help her child work through the stress of ADHD. If the child is on meds, the meds can make them feel like crap. My son put up with meds until he was 16 and a Football player and then he simply said, "if you want me to take the meds you'll have to tackle me and shove them down my throat." We let him stop the meds. Having the child see a Pediatric Therapist is a really good idea, they need an outlet, someone they can say anything to without the worry that they might get in trouble. Taking my child to a child Psychologist was the best thing I ever did for him....he learned coping tools, he learned how to handle his anger and how to voice his emotions/how he felt without being angry or depressed.
And yes my son acted out, he was diagnosed at 4, because at 4 he would be so angry he would go in his bedroom and shove his dresser over, through toys at the wall so hard they stuck in the sheet rock, he would trash his room until he was exhausted and then just break down in tears. He didn't know how to tell us how he felt inside. Now he's 26, he graduated High School, he's a Fireman and in the Army National Guard and does just fine.
Good luck with all you've got going on.
