Probably not, but I've been having rapid and powerful heart beats that leave me short of breath and feeling tight and heavy in the chest. They come on spontaneously and last for about 5 mins at a time. I'm not too unfit (only 24 years old). Wondering if this might be related to stress, although I'm usually quite relaxed when they happen. Any one else had this problem?

I'm trying to exercise daily. I was doing fairly well until I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago but now I'm getting back on the horse. Today I walked over a mile with my arm weights that are about 22lbs total. I was out of shape and it was hard on my arms. I also did my 30 situps. I'm also going to drink a lot of water and try to eat healthy. I do tend to have a sweet tooth but I'm cutting...
Panic attack.... hard to breathe increased heart rate, feels like the chest is in a vise....
did you just change meds possibly?
There are plenty of meds to have Rx for this.Xanax,Klonazapam(sp)Lorazapam...and in a pinch...take a Benydrill.

My first thought was an anxiety attack. They are a little differnt then panic attacks as they dont seem t have a lot of mental affects on me. When I have a panic attack I tend to go into fight or flight mode, when I have a anxiety attack I suffer the physical symptoms sometimes I know the emotional trigger but I dont reel the need to run/hide/ect. there is a differance between the two.
If this is your first time having these things I would talk to your pdoc/pcp both and discuss them to make sure its not med induced or a pysical problem.
I'll preface this by saying that I suppose you should see a regular doc, just to rule any physical cause, but to me it sounds like high anxiety!!! And I've had it forever, or so it seems.
I think if it was a full blown panic attack, you'd think that you were definitely in the throes of a real heart attack and would freak out, sure that you were dying!!
Sounds like you hyperventilate. Try slowing your breathing, and/or breathe into a paper bag and see if that helps alleviate the symptoms!!
Good luck!!!
