Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
The voices that I hear are not malign, normally, unless I am semi psychotic. Even when I am psychotic, the voices are not quite like that of schizophrenics-it is more like I "hear" someone talking about me but the voices are never strong. The voices are more like a muttering.
I noticed that my brain will "program" itself to a person's voice. The social paranoia will "attatch" itself to that voice and I will "think" that the person is talking about me. As well, I disassociate during stress and for a moment I will think that the TV is my son's voice if I am in the other room.
I am patient with myself and try to see what the source of the "sounds" might be. Soemtimes, the sounds are a surprise visit from somone (chaotic household) and other times, it is the TV, and other times I am just so tired.
I figure that my brain has been through so much trauma and my hearing has had such bad stuff done to it over the years-I have abused my hearing-that 2/3rds of what I hear is non-sense.
I wonder if your therapist could help with you blocking out odd sounds. Don't know. I know that meds can help with psychosis but to be careful with any antipsychotic.
