Have you stopped Lithium weight gain?

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has found a solution to the weight gain that Lithium causes? Does Lithium Carbonate cause weight gain in the form of fat or is it fluid retention? I'm looking at Lasix, a diuretic, or Topamax, a mood stabilizer, as possibilities to control my weight. Any advice or experiences much appreciated. Thanks, Ian

Wish I knew what to say. I've used lithium for over 30 years and have never had a weight gain problem.

Some meds trigger the appetite centre of the brain and we gain weight as I have from over eating after taking my night dose of Seroquel

My pdoc stated Topomax doesn't work so she wouldn't order it... I tried years ago for a short while but it made me really speedy

Have you ever tried Lamictal??...It's more weight neutral

topomax is very good for weight loss so long as you don't stop and start it. I find it a great med. I couldn't take lithium so I take topomax with prozac and saphris instead.
