Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Anyone ever been to group therapy? What's it like? Something about sitting in a circle sharing my feelings with strangers turns me off. I'd like to know if it's worth trying.
Rigaud
No I do not have a group in mind and the idea of the circle was just generalization. And yes, Authentic confessions are always the most interesting and enlightening but I've found that there are only certain moments in life where many people will allow reality to invade their thoughts and I'm nervous about going on about these bloated existential queries that constantly bother me because I can't handle being judged poorly, or even accurately. O what a mess!

My first experience with group therapy was shortly after I started one on one therapy and after going my whole life up till now with nothing it was all new to me. I honestly didn't think I would like group therapy but they were small (about 3 to 8 people tops) and it took me a while to open up but I did little by little. I opened up and surprisingly it felt good. By my last session I finally talked about my suicide attempt and it felt good to talk about it. The people in the group may not all be dealing with the same problems but I find there is a healing vibe and an understanding in the room. They didn't judge me and offered support, much like this site. I would do group therapy again and incidentally I may be going back into it real soon. Best of luck with your decision. Try it for a few sessions, if its not for you you don't have to go back.

Rigaud, I wanted to revisit this since I've just been in group therapy all morning, and throw in that there are ways to offer support and benefit from group therapy without bearing your soul to these strangers. You don't have to be able to talk about what's going on in your life specifically, but larger ideas such as, how do you cope with anxiety? What does X mean to you? It all depends on the topic. And if you want to be more detailed, go ahead, but you can say that you'd rather not go into detail right now.
Rigaud
Thanks for the information. I think I'm going to give it a shot, just going to have to force myself to do it.

I thought it was fun but the best part was that I met other people and saw that I was not alone in my "bipolarness".
