So it's been a pretty hectic couple of months..... 2 months ago I caught a cold which turned into bronchitis then pneumonia then my asthma flaired up and I ended up spending a copuple of days in the hospital and a couple of weeks on prednisone... I never did get rid of the cough and the asthma flaired again 2 weeks ago and I was back in the ER with the flu and they put me back on prednisone for 5 days.... each time on the prednisone I went a little manic but it backed off as I stopped the prednisone. Well Last Saturday I had yet another major asthma attack and the ER could not get it under control so I spent the last 4 days in the hospital on mega doses of prednisone... I am so manic I can't think, yet it feels so awesome! I feel like I am flying! I stayed home from work yesterday to "rest" after being released form the hospital on Tuesday and instead of resting I took down all the drapes in my house and washed them because I also quit smoking (today is day 5) and I could smell cigarettes on them... then I washed down all the walls and floors and furniture. It was gross all the yellow stuff that was all over everything. I am not sleeping but 3 hours a day like an hour at a time.
Tomorrow I see my pdoc and I don't know if I should tell her how bad (awesome!) it is or if I should calmly look her straight in the eye and say "Oh I'm a little restless.....".
How much Klonopin can I safely take? I would rather counter this with Klonopin than have my pdoc increase my anti psychotics. I am on the prednisine for another 10 days....
I'm not spending money yet which is a good thing cause I just got my bonus but will need it to pay the hospital bill..... But I'm thinking about going to Target and Home Depot after work, there are so many things around my house that need fixing.

Hey All...I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful beginning of your weekI have a bunch of chores that need doing but may put them off til tomorrow and just hang out with my landlord/roomie todayWhat about you?...Anything special going on?Have a great day and take good care of you!!..Xo

I would be straight up with your pdoc... It's great you're feeling so good and energized now but unfortunately the crash will come.. Hopefully increasing meds will nip it in the bud...xo
Of course you should tell your Pdoc!! LOL!!! You know that!!

How does anyone here know what's a safe dose for you?
Or even if taking benzos is the right way to counter your mania in any meaningful way?
I hope you only spend money on the things you SHOULD spend it on.
Spending when manic!!! Talk about 'buyer's remorse', LOL!!!
Whew!!! You got a lot done!!!! Yes, it's horrifying to see all that cigarette residue all over everything!! Think of our poor lungs!!!!
Good for you for quitting!!!
I wish you continued success!!!!!
I think you should do the usual 'print this out and show it to your Pdoc'.
I know you don't want to up your dosage of anti-psychotics, but maybe that's what you need. Just short term!! While on the Prednisone and a little while after, til the steroid is out of your system.
Or tell your Pdoc you don't want to and won't take more anti-psychotics and ask her what other options there are.
Good luck to you!!!
I hope the steroid and whatever else you're doing for your lungs works the way it's supposed to and that your mania subsides or at least doesn't take you anywhere you don't want to go!!!
(((((Hugs)))))
Well I took 2mgs of Klonopin which is the upper limit of what I have taken before and it has helped considerably. At least I no longer want to crawl out of my skin and scale the walls. Mind is still racing but I am starting to get a little work done at the office.... I can work manically all day at mindless stuff like cleaning and shopping but ask me to do anything that requires thought and it is completely beyond my current abilities. I didn't used to be like that... I used to be able to become ultra focused and accomplish incredible things at work.... part of the reason I was always the one getting promoted was because I was so very good at what I do. Maybe that is just the difference between hypomania and true mania.... I lose the ability to form rational thought when full on manic.
I am better for the moment.... tomorrow I will take the Klonopin sooner and be honest with the pdoc.
Then a couple of years later, I started smoking again.
Waiting for the mania to re-start, so I can clean up again.
Hope you feel better soon
One thing my pdoc found out, is once you have been on it for even a small period of time, it stays in your brain for months. Up to 3 months. I have to have 100 mg single doses twice every 6 months for my RA treatments. This time, my rheumy thinks I went into withdrawal after because I have been on it so much.
So hang on for the ride. Quite a few in the forum going through this, I have heard. And use the energy to get lots down. Hey, if you have any extra energy, either send it my way, or just drop by - I can give you lots to do.
Now wiser but older, I try and avoid asthma triggers. And sometimes, that is just not possible. Hope you are hanging in there.
Seriously, I am so sorry to hear how ill you are again. Try Doxycyline for the infection, and zinc and vitamin D to fight the infections. For the first time in the last 20 years, I got a flu and a slight head cold and it did not go into my lungs. I am just hanging on, in case it changes my mind.
Maybe we could form an "I hate prednisone" support group here? It would be all venting, but that is not such a bad thing!
It is on my records that I am allergic to it.
In reality what happened the last time I was on it (even at a low dose) was awful and something I would not wish on my worst enemy.
I had a lung issue and was prescribed prednisone after an inhaler actually worsened my lung condition.
The first day I felt great and accomplished a lot. The second day I felt awful again. Pretty much it escalated from there and somewhere between day 3 and 4 I went out right suicidal AND homicidal. I wanted to kill everyone in my path. Everyone was way to #$%#$$#@ loud any noise at all got on my nerves a lot. I ended up in the psych hospital for 4 days.
