The good news is that I won my disability case. I got the Award letter in the mail so I will be getting money and getting out of homelessness. Finally. The bad news is I won't actually get the money till May 25th. Which wouldn't be bad except that I spoke to my caseworker here at the shelter and she said my 90 days are up on May 1st and I will have to leave the shelter on that day. I was kind of hoping for an extension (I have seen other people get them) but she doesn't seem inclined to give me one. I would go and spend the 25 days at the Salvation Army shelter but they are closing their doors on the 28th of April. Permanently. That puts almost 200 people out sleeping on the sidewalk who weren't there before. And it leaves only 3 shelters operating in this city. One, the shelter I am in now, two, the Catholic Charities which only houses men, and the third is the Rescue Mission which takes both men and women (as the Salvation Army did) but it only lets you stay for 7 days at a time, once every 30 days. So that won't do what I need. It looks like I will be back to sleeping in the park for 25 days till I get my money. I have 16 days left here at the shelter. But to be very honest I am kinda looking forward to being back in the park. In many ways it is much better (cleaner and less stressful) than the shelter. So that is what is going on with me. Six more weeks of homelessness and then I will be able to rent a place. So the good news definitely trumps the bad. I am very happy. Thank all of you for your well wishes.

May things just keep getting better. Sorry you have to spend time in the park :(
But having your own place will be worth it so glad you got disability!
