This is my first thread and I am just looking to see how many or if anyone has experienced the same as me. I go through the state when it comes to health care. They appoint a case worker and a doctor. Anyhow, I recently got out of the hospital after going through a manic episode a couple months ago and they switched me to another doctor because they keep moving them around to different cities. So I asked this guy to put me on my old regimen that I felt somewhat normal before which was wellbutrin 450mg, zoloft 100mg and zonegran 300mg. Well this is still not working for me to bring me out of the depression I have been in and I know alot has to do with grieving over my dad that passed away unexpectedly. But anyhow now he just has me on wellbutrin 300mg, zoloft50mg and started me on cymbalta 20mg. I'm just afraid of getting sick without a mood stabilizer. Could it be that he will put me on a stabilizer when I come out of the depression? I'm really scared.

i would stress my concern with your dr, sorry i dont know what else to say. i havent taken anything u have listed except for the cymbalta and it didnt do much for me. good luck to u k

I don't know how long you've been on any of those meds...they take a little while to kick in.

Talk to your pdoc about it, try to get it straightened out. I hope everything turns out ok.

def talk to your doc. this is your health and your recovery. do what you feel you need to for it. i just hope that your health care isnt as bad as it is here in jersey

I work for the state and have great insurance with them-I can go to any doctor. I guess that is different from a stte doctor. Every doctor I've been to has their favorites. I wonder if they get a kick back from drug companies. My pdoc thinks that above all you need a mood stabilizer. Look up cymbalta and see if it is. If not call your doctor and ask for one.

Another thing, I was reading in a book that week that taking antidepressants without a mood stabilizer can set off mania and a life time of rapid cycling. I'm proof of that. I was on antiD's for many years before I was diagnosed with BP; now, I cycle up and down at the drop of a hat.

thank you all for your input. I did talk to him.. I think the only thing I can do is try to find another doctor. This is all just a mess.

Well, if you talked to him about it, what DID he say, as to the possible use of a mood stabilizer!!?
I'm so sorry about the recent loss of your dad!!! How very hard to bear, especially when unexpected!!!

hi...i absolutely agree, you need a mood stabilizer for sure. I am having a lot of difficulty finding one myself right now, I had to go off lithium so I am pretty nervous too. But I know that you will get this worked out, it may take a little time but work with your doc and look out for yourself and insist that he help you out. Good luck!

Well, the state doctor is just kind being impossible right now. I'm going to see another doctor that will allow me to pay a little something with medicare benefits. This will be a private doctor so maybe there will be better luck communicating. Thank you all for your input. It means a lot to me.
