Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
AD are a BIG no no by themselves. A mood stablizer is going to be your base med. Then others can be added if needed for any other problems you have.
Be sure to stick to any schedule given as to taking them. Most are "step ups" meaning that you start at a low dose and go up in mg's slowly. This is very important with Lamictal or Topamax. Same if you come off them, step down. Never go cold turkey.
Some will require you to get regular blood work to keep track of levels in your body since if you get to high a mg they can be toxic. (Lithium)
Sigh, my tdoc today was not happy about that. Said I need a mood stabilizer ASAP, she is going to call him I guess.
I agree with the other people who responded to your question by answering that mood stabilization is first. I have yet to get there. Some day I will be able to move on to tweaking my mood to stabilize higher or lower.
I'm glad that you will meet with your pdoc in only 2 weeks to start a mood stabilizer. I'm also glad that your pdoc is conferring with your OB. When are you due?
