Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
So he, prescription for Zyprexa, and lorazepam, I will start them tomorrow. I dont know what it will be like to not be this talkative person that is not so out of control. I dont know what it will be like, Im scared as to what is to come!
Jimgreg I didnt take the 2 med together.
I went to my mothers house will a face that could tell I was crying, she didnt ask why! She is not going to accept the fact that I am bi-polar. Heck when I attempted suicide in high school, more a cry for help. She took me to 1 therapy appointment and never went back, but Im just going to focus on getting better!
Thank you all for your support!

WARNING!!!!!! The following is NOT recommended and should NOT be considered normal or effective treatment, just an account of how I deal with my situation. Just as two people can experience the flu differently, people are affected by Bi Polar Disorder in different ways, and thus everyone's treatments should be tailored to fit their individual needs, closely monitored by a counselor/psychologist.
I stopped taking my meds 4 years ago because they made me feel like a zombie. My psychiatrist had me on 1500 mg of Depakote ER a day. It effectively normalized my ups and downs, (happies and crappies) but to the extreme that I didn't feel any emotions. The world looked grey and boring. Food lost its taste. Music lost its meaning. My senses were so "normalized" that everything was dull, so I started burning myself. I rationalized it as a need to feel something, anything. I don't mean for this to scare anyone, rather I want them to take mild warning from this. INSTEAD OF DOING THIS PLEASE TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR AND TELL THEM YOUR MEDS AREN'T WORKING THE WAY YOU NEED THEM TO.
So I stopped taking the meds, started working out, a LOT, I changed my diet from mostly fast food to much healthier, balanced meals 4 times a day, and started drinking a LOT more water and a LOT less alcohol (self medication). I can say now I'm happy most days, going months without an episode. When I have mild bouts of mania (sleeplessness, rapid thought, extreme energy, feelings of being indestructable) I am teaching myself to channel it into positive things. I take the creativity and force it toward work.
I'm not really sure why I chose to post all this now, or really even where I want to go with it, only hoping that it helps someone, somehow.
I called my Psychiatrist and had an emergency appointment. I then went into a psychiatric unit on April 27th. I just got released to day!! I have to say it was a much needed vacation!
So my vow is to stay on my meds from now on!
