Don't give up! If your Mom says she will support you then you have the opportunity to wait for your social security hearing. So sorry it is taking so long to get it and that you have to have a hearing and an attorney. I went through the process with my guidance counselor and it took 4 months. I was going to a free clinic here in Oklahoma. Is there any place like that where you live? I wish you all the best. Are you on any meds?

Well I'm o. My moms insurance until I turn 26 in April. But I also have Medicaid which pays for everything else so I have $0 out of pocket expenses. I am on a handful of medications including lithium plus i see a therapist and my psychiatrist. So my conditions are well documented.

Hi, kisses. I've had to get on SSI, and it took me three years. Mainly because I didn't have much in the way of documentation. But also due to an error they made that was a part of the extensive amount of time it took. I also went through the process two times and it took me to getting a hearing until I qualified, which unfortunately is not uncommon. Many people feel that it is intentional to put off applicants as long as possible, which is plausible but there are other factors to figure into the mix. Such as the sheer numbers of people applying now that didn't used to as well as those who try to and some who do, misuse the agency's intended use. And also as well, the limited available funds compared to what was available in the past.

Unfortunately another common belief that many people have, is that as long as the people at SSA put off your approval as they can, the more likely applicants are to simply give up. Another factor that applied to me was the fact that I lived in a relatively densely populated county. Not many people seem to know that even though disability is a federal program, it is each county that processes the applications individually. For whatever reasons there are for approvals to be unnecessarily prolonged, the most unfortunate thing is that it is the applicants, who are some of the most in need of assistance in society, who must suffer and do without and sometimes even die, waiting in the process of getting ultimately approved. And some others are those who need and deserve benefits and still somehow get denied.

The majority of those who get approved have had to get to the hearing phase before they finally do. And you have an even higher chance of winning approval because you have an attorney. I hope you get your approval soon!!

I agree that you've one up by having an attorney. Sometimes people do give up...don't let them defeat you. There are those who fake crap to get what they think they deserve. You're not one of them! Keep going, please? Posting updates is useful for all of us. Thanks.XO

It took me four years to get my Social Security (And I had been hospitalized like five times). When I finally got an attorney it went through and it was retroactive. Don't give up or lose faith.
