When is the last time youve seen your pdoc? Is there any way to get an emergency appt? Sounds like you need a med tweak. I'm sorry our going through this :(

I am so glad that I got online and searched this. The first thing that popped up was this topic. I don't know what to do to stop this? I've never recognized it before for what it is.

yes, discuss with your doctor - loss of sleep may tip you into mania apart from being a nuisance anyway.

If you can't get hold of him/her soon you might try an over the counter sleep med - the one to go for is the one based on an anti-histamine - alot of us use that, it's not addictive and it might help a little - but you do need a med tweak because the sleep med won't hold it for long.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will try my doc and see if he is on-call..I have taken as much of the sleeping med as I can, both prescribed and OTC. I can't stop the racing thoughts and the counting long enough to relax to let it work. I am feeling very anxious, nervous, and scared.

Hang in there. Those long nights are hard. I'm one who has had nights where Ambien couldn't knock me out. I don't take that anymore because of the hangovers after a night when it did put me down.

My doc prescribed Doxepin. I don't see much about it on forums but it's cheap and seems to help a little. Not exactly getting many hours straight but it feels a bit better. Hope something helps and that you get that much needed rest.

My pdoc recommended "Sleepy Time" tea. Yes she does prescribe RX Drugs. warning: STT contains chamomile. People with ragweed ie, hayfever can't take this herb. Hope you contact your pdoc okay and it does some good for you.

Sounds really hard...I hope you got some rest today. Sometimes I just lay down in a dark room trying to get quiet inside....pdoc prescribes drugs to help.....I agree a tweak might help, hang in there angel.

I was able to talk to my doc and I have an appointment first thing in the morning. Got about 3 hours of restless sleep, but as it goes with mania...I dont feel like I need the sleep anymore. I know that I do so I am up and down. The thoughts keep racing through my head about everything I need to be doing or could be doing. I can slow that by my counting but then I can't quit counting and adding everything up to 16 in my head. I hope that they can get my medicine right. I am doing everything I can to not act on impluses. Thank you all so much for the support and for having a place to go whenever I need it.

Best of Luck to All who cant sleep. I have experienced that too. We all have at one point or another. Its very common for bipolar victims to self medicate with marijuana because they dont want to see a doctor. The next danger is when they quit smoking and they choose again on their own to do it natural without prescription meds and its a total disaster for everybody around them and they have no clue what they are putting everyone through.
