This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
There are no Road Rules , for forgiveness
For your kids sake, I would try and keep trying with your family .
Maybe little doses of time , rather than an all out all day family thing ?
Like DD said, there is nothing wrong with you. Our families have the unique ability to irk us the most because, at some point, we allowed ourselves to be vulnerable with them .... and they hurt us deeply.
I know exactly what you mean about thinking you have everything resolved in your own mind and having that explode once you're around that person again. That happened with my mom.
Here's what helped me deal with the situation. I got really solid about my truth ..... the stuff I know happened, the true feelings I had as a result of comments and crap from my mom. I made up my mind that I would no longer be vulnerable to being hurt by her. It's just not gonna happen.
Now I view her with some degree of pity -- that she's so close-minded, judgmental, and narcissistic.
Gift yourself a big gift -- forgive them cuz they know not what they do. :)
Then I realized - Resentment rust the container- I was angry, hurt and bitter - and they were busy living and sleeping fine.
For me, I had to learn forgiveness or letting go - has nothing to do with them, its saying I refuse to let bitter shit own my brain, when it not paying any rent, taking up all the space - and hurts no one but me..
My family sucks - and yelling, or telling them also does nothing but hurt me. So, I'd rather come here and vent, and let go of the crap - with an OH WELL or a tiny fuck it : )
That's I started to let go - of the score sheet....
Even if you can forgive what's in the past, new shit is coming along all the time!!!
Forgive! Forgive!! Forgive!!! And the crap keeps coming!!!!
Gina seems to have the best handle on this!!!
I do what she does, too. But I've got it pretty good right now!!! No one in my family or in real life is giving me any grief about anything, so there's nothing to forgive!!!
Stuff going on here calls for my forgiveness sometimes, but that's so easy to do, here!!!!!
Once you learn (through actual experience) how much YOU benefit from forgiving others, it gets INFINITELY easier to do!!!!!
Christmas is the hardest w/no family. The rest of the year I breath a sigh of relief that they're gone. I know it sounds heartless, but they were too much for a beeper to handle.
Be careful because people tend to downplay stress-causing events once some time has passed. You should try and make some record...either mental or documented on how the overall mood placed itself with you.A reference , accurately showing the true pressures.
Don't burn too often for others no matter what the ties were. In the end it is your health and your life that is important.
I'm constantly filtering out events in the family I can go to and the ones I don't want to attend.
Paths of least resistance seem to work for me.
All the best for what you wish to do.
Family need to become acquainted with what you want to do as opposed to what they want YOU to do.
Show them the template you feel you can work with
ALL the best
Just when I get over one thing a new one shows up. If my kids weren't involved I would probably think about hopping states to get away from them.
I can love them from a distance.
Everyone should have a large family, at least two hours away!!! LOL
