After seeing the depression that Carrie from "Homeland" went through post mania and the depiction of the ECT I am hoping that it will help me. I have an appointment 9/4 to talk to psychiatrist about it. I have to do something. I wake up every day wishing I was dead. it has been that way for 4 years now. "

Going through with ECT is not an easy decision, trust me I know! I was in your shoes just a few months ago when I had to make the same decision.

If you are at the end of your rope and Rx treatment has not helped, ECT is supposedly the next step. I know two people who have undergone 8 and 12 treatments and saw improvements a few sessions into it. The other thing they had in common was some memory loss and confusion.

I decided against the treatment for me only because I have two small children and keeping up with their activities and schedules is my responsibility plus they were out of school so the timing was not right. If my latest treatment change does not work, I am still considering it for later on this year.

I have been seriously considering ECTs myself. Like CaroW, I just cannot do it right now. I take care of my elderly and chronically ill mother. There is no one now to fill my shoes. I am told to get the appropriate amount of sessions, it will take 2 weeks in hospital. I have to go inpatient for them because the nearest treatment facility is too far away for me to commute. Anyways, for bipolar depression, the success rate is near 80%. That is what an old psychotherapist told me.. Please let us know how it goes. GOOD LUCK!
